Verizon Enterprise Customers Get Virtualized Mobile Workspace that is Secure and Easily Managed, Even on Employees’ Own Devices
According to a new report from Gartner, by 2017 half of all employers will require employees to supply their own device for work purposes. Additionally, the continued rise of cloud computing is making access to business applications and data nearly ubiquitous from any device. This has, and will continue to create a headache for IT as they struggle to provide the access required, across devices, locations, etc., while maintaining an appropriate level of control and security.
In order to address these differing needs for enterprise customers, Verizon and VMware have teamed up to provide a dual persona solution for Android-based smartphones. This solution, VMware Horizon Mobile, is available on LG Intuition and Motorola RAZR M smartphones on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Network and provides strong security and simplified management of corporate information on VMware-ready mobile devices. The service will be added to additional Android-based devices throughout the next year.
The dual persona capability splits an employee’s phone in half – creating a secure, IT-controlled environment for business applications, while leaving the user’s personal data and application unchanged. Verizon enterprise customers now have a simple solution to help manage mobile devices that scales as their business grows, caters to the wishes of employees and prepares for the future enterprise/personal device trends.
Verizon is able to extend cloud services offering applications and data on the mobile platform that would have typically had to reside in the data center or on the enterprise’s premise. This can be done across a variety of Android devices without sacrificing IT control and security. Work information can be updated or wiped without effecting the employees’ personal data or applications.
