New York, NY – NTT America, Inc., a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and a Tier-1 global IP network services provider, today announced the appointment of Kazuhiro Gomi as the company’s president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Gomi was formerly Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the acting head of the Enterprise Solutions Business Unit. He will succeed Tetsuro Yamaguchi who was named president and CEO of NTT America in 2006. During Mr. Yamaguchi’s tenure in office and under his tremendous leadership, company revenue nearly doubled.
In his new role as CEO, Mr. Gomi will be responsible for the direction and leadership of NTT America’s mission, strategy, annual goals and objectives, and fostering a culture of success. He will oversee all functional areas of NTT America, including the Enterprise Solutions and the Global IP Network business units, which comprise the operations of NTT America, as well as legal, human resources, marketing communications and finance. The Enterprise Solutions Business Unit (ESBU) is focused on providing private networking, global Ethernet, datacenter/colocation solutions, managed hosting, and cloud computing services to enterprise customers and multinational corporations. The Global IP Network (GIN) Business Unit operates one of the leading Global Tier-1 Internet backbones and is involved in the sales of direct IP transit connections to telecommunications companies, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), content providers, Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), enterprises and Web hosting companies.
Prior to his appointment to COO in June 2009, Mr. Gomi served as CTO of NTT America as well as vice president of NTT America’s Global IP Network Business Unit. As CTO, Mr. Gomi was responsible for the company’s technology procurement strategy and vendor selection. During this time, Mr. Gomi led NTT America through a successful phase of growth and development, including the advancement of the company’s Global IP Network. He has been an NTT employee for more than 20 years, and was involved in product management/product development activities for the Global IP Network and several research and development projects within NTT including voice answering and video on demand systems.
Mr. Gomi is well-known in the telecommunications industry and highly sought after for comment by the business press as well as for high-level speaking engagements on global business trends and developments in Internet networking technology from social media to cloud computing. In September of 2009 Mr. Gomi was named to the 2009 Global Telecoms Business Power100, a list of the 100 most powerful and influential people in the telecoms industry.
Mr. Gomi received a MSIE from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a MSEE from KeioUniversity, Tokyo.
