Apps to Help Feed the Hungry This Thanksgiving

Most of us have so much to be thankful for – our family, jobs, home, teachers, friends, health, food to eat, and the list goes on. As we gather around the table this Thanksgiving to count our many blessings, we may also be thinking of those who aren’t as fortunate. At Sprint we are passionate about this cause. In 2015, Sprint’s annual Feed the Need food drive collected more than 484,100 meals for people in need across the country.

There are lots of ways you can help, including volunteering at your local homeless shelters, but an even easier approach is just a tap away. Download one of these smartphone apps to start helping those in need!

ShareTheMeal: You can help change the world and end global hunger – together with the United Nations. Download the app and share your meals with children in need. It costs only 50 cents to feed one child for one day in many parts of the world. You’ll even see a profile of a child you’ve helped. Available for iOS and Android.Free.

Feedie: Feedie is an app by The Lunchbox Fund that transforms your passion for sharing food photos into actually sharing food for those who need it. Simply sign up via Facebook or Twitter and visit a participating restaurant. When you use Feedie to take a photo of your meal and post it, the restaurant makes a donation to The Lunchbox Fund – a non-profit organization that provides daily meals to school children in South Africa. Your post thanks the restaurant and spreads the Feedie message! Available for iOS and Android. Free.

FoodCircles: FoodCircles lets you try a dish at a local restaurant for $1 or more and sends 100 percent of your purchase to provide one (or more) hungry children dinner. Every $1 you spend feeds one child, via the hunger nonprofit of your choice. Once you make a purchase, simply show the server of your chosen restaurant to redeem alongside regularly purchased food or drink. You can buy vouchers for friends, strangers and, of course, for your own dinner plans. Available for iOS and Android.Free.
