ADTRAN’s hiX 5600 MSAN enables Gigabit Ethernet services delivery
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Oct. 22, 2013– ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN, news, filings), a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced the expansion of its hiX MSAN portfolio. The hiX 5600 series adds a new 48-port Point-to-Point Ethernet module that is purpose-built for scaling 100Mbps and Gigabit services, enabling service providers to more ably manage the bandwidth explosion being driven by cloud, data and video applications. Through ADTRAN’s continued enhancement of the hiX family of products, this new high-density fiber service option, combined with existing DSLAM modules, makes the hiX 5600 a key component to ADTRAN’s industry-leading FTTx solution suite.
With the addition of ADTRAN’s hiX technology for system-level vectoring, European service providers can easily support a higher and more diverse bandwidth service mix within the same platform. They can also tune service expansions according to the street-by-street needs of business and residential subscribers, which gives them a higher level of control.
All key services access technologies are integrated into a single, common access aggregation platform with the ADTRAN hiX 5600 MSAN series. This enables service providers to quickly and cost effectively deploy the services enterprise and residential customers demand, regardless of the associated bandwidth requirements.
The hiX 5600 series is a family of high-performance, carrier-class IP multi-service access and aggregation nodes designed to ETSI standards. These nodes bridge the gap between the carrier IP network and the end subscriber for both fibre and copper services. They are ideal for delivering premium services to residential broadband, SLA-based business and backhaul customers which are utilizing next-generation system-level vectoring and Fiber-to-the-Premises technologies.
Built upon a pure IP core, the hiX 5600 series supports both legacy and emerging service interfaces over both fibre and copper. As a result, service providers are able to future proof their networks. New services can be deployed with the simple addition of a line card, avoiding equipment obsolescence and protecting the service provider’s network investments. All hiX-based systems offer a simple migration path from legacy interfaces to IP, such as transitioning from traditional POTS or ISDN voice infrastructures to VoIP, enabling service providers to adapt quickly to new business opportunities and remain highly competitive.
Finally, to ensure maximum flexibility, the common equipment and line cards are environmentally hardened allowing the system to be deployed virtually anywhere. The hiX 5600 series platforms are available in four different sizes (the hiX 5622, hiX 5625, hiX 5630 and hiX 5635 models) and can be deployed at the central office or deep in the network.
“Maximum flexibility of access deployment is a vital pre-requisite for European service providers, and in particular the ability for FTTP and VDSL2 vectoring to coexist within the same asset; enabling responsive go-to-market at a massively reduced cost,” said Ronan Kelly, director of product line management, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “ADTRAN’s comprehensive FTTx portfolio is now even better able to help our customers meet their business needs by providing a complete high density platform that allows them to capitalize fully on the premium services expansion that is taking place in the market today.”
