Mammoth Networks has completed three additional aggregation points in the month of July. The new aggregation points are in Bismarck, North Dakota, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mammoth’s added points of presence will enhance services for their client base in the Dakotas and northern Idaho.
The Bismarck and Minneapolis expansion improves Mammoth’s access to fiber in the Dakotas, and delivers fiber service to Mammoth’s Partners in the region. Creating new points of presence (POPs) allows Mammoth to purchase circuits within the Dakotas for its Partners out-of-region, and also allows Mammoth to deliver circuits to the Dakotas for its Partners in-region.
Mammoth’s Idaho installation comes on the tail of the company’s recent expansion into western Montana. With POPs in Spokane, Coeur d’Alene and Missoula, Mammoth is focusing on smaller, underserved regions. This focus deepens coverage for Mammoth, allowing the telecommunications company to sell across telephone boundaries. Mammoth reported that a $2.2mil multi-site contract helped justify the new POP.
Mammoth traditionally creates base connectivity in new markets, allowing the company to aggregate services back and forth between networks. This type of connection creates a network-to-network interface, or NNI. Mammoth has NNIs with 19 national fiber providers and 27 regional fiber providers and cable operators. The company’s products appeal to small phone companies, competitive local exchange carriers, voice providers, cable providers and regional fiber carriers.
“We’ve been hunkered down the last few months, bringing new markets into our footprint. Our focus has been on remote regions of the Rockies,” explained Brian Worthen, Mammoth’s CEO.
Proof of this rural focus is the company’s recent purchase of an operation in the Vail Valley of Colorado. Worthen commented that the presence in Vail will allow the company a jumping-off point for network services in the mountains above Denver, emphasizing Mammoth operates two distinct fiber routes out of the market.
This rural focus has not detracted from Mammoth’s metro coverage. Mammoth completed an installation at Fortrust in Denver this month, marking their fourth data center presence in the market. The installation at Fortrust is powered by a 10Gbps fiber circuit.
Mammoth acts as a one-stop shop for provisioning, billing and support. The company prides itself for support of legacy services alongside newer services based on Internet Protocol. As a facilities-based aggregator of wholesale data services, Mammoth provides service across the contiguous 48 states and Canada. Mammoth simplifies Wide Area Networking by consolidating multiple access technologies and carriers onto a single network, and delivering to their Partners over a single interface. The privately-held company is based in Gillette, Wyoming.
