DukeNet Communications Achieves MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 Certification

Carrier Confirmed for Critical Ethernet Service Attributes that Ensure Class of Service, Manageability and Interconnect

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – July 24, 2013 – DukeNet Communications, a leading regional fiber provider of high-bandwidth connectivity solutions for enterprise, data center and carrier businesses in the Southeast, proudly announces today that it has achieved the Metro Ethernet Forum’s (MEF) rigorous Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification. The achievement was marked at the MEF’s quarterly meeting this week, July 22-25, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The MEF launched its Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification program in April 2012. After a successful “CE 1.0 Certification” program that had certified more than 150 vendors and service providers for two standardized service types – E-LINE and E-LAN, the MEF began the CE 2.0 certification last year to focus on a longer list of critical attributes. CE 2.0 expands the certification to address class of service, manageability and interconnect for four service types that include E-LINE, E-LAN, E-TREE and E-ACCESS.

“CE 2.0 certification requires months of collaboration, network setup and testing,” explains David Herran, DukeNet’s Vice President of Network Architecture and Technology Planning. “It provides the building blocks for establishing network-to-network interfaces (NNIs) with our Ethernet service provider partners. DukeNet continues to expand Ethernet services to more locations, and our partners enable us to connect to locations outside of our own footprint. CE 2.0 certification gives us the ability to confidently tell our customers that we can interconnect without issue. This certification carries a great deal of weight in our industry, and DukeNet is pleased to be among this small but key group of certified carriers.”

“CE 2.0 brings significant value-added benefits, matching enterprise users’ performance needs to services with specific Service Level Agreements (SLAs),” stated Nan Chen, President of the MEF. “This certification helps bring new benefits to service providers, equipment vendors and end users more quickly, delivering higher quality at a lower cost. We welcome DukeNet into this select group.”

According to Vertical Systems Group analysis, the global Carrier Ethernet services market is expected to reach nearly $50 billion by 2017. Revenue growth is being driven by aggressive implementation of business-class network services, defining a growing and important global telecommunications opportunity.

DukeNet’s MEF CE 2.0 certification was administered by IOMetrix, the MEF’s approved certification testing entity. For more information about DukeNet, please visit www.dukenet.com.
