Brings downlink MIMO benefits to the uplink
Nokia Siemens Networks achieved a record-breaking 56 Mbps peak upload throughput in a TD-LTE* network using its commercial 4G base station with multiple antenna technology and a single 20 MHz carrier. The company pushes the limits of 4G technology with a series of unmatched speed records.
The latest TD-LTE uplink throughput record was set in a test network in Hangzhou, China, where Nokia Siemens Networks celebrated its 15-year commitment to TD technology. To achieve this uplink milestone, the company used its award-winningFlexi Multiradio 10 Base Station, which is commercially available and has been selected by many operators worldwide for their 4G networks. Single User Multiple Input Multiple Output (SU-MIMO) technology, which was applied for the uplink traffic, was one of the keys to reaching the record-breaking throughput speed using a single carrier.
Nokia Siemens Networks now holds uplink records for both SU-MIMO and Multi User-Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) technologies. Last year, the company set two world first records for uplink throughput in TD-LTE networks, the latter of which resulted in a throughput speed beyond TD-LTE-Advanced specifications using multiple carriers. In both cases, Nokia Siemens Networks used its commercial Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station.
“We are witnessing a mobile data traffic boom with users downloading – and increasingly also uploading – huge files”, said Tero Peltola, vice president, LTE at Nokia Siemens Networks. “Nokia Siemens Networks is proud to be at the forefront of TD-LTE innovation, helping operators increase data throughput in their networks and provide superior customer experience for tomorrow’s smartphone users. Today’s download speeds will be tomorrow’s upload speeds.”
Nokia Siemens Networks is a trusted partner for ensuring uninterrupted, high-quality TD-LTE network rollouts and providing products that also ensure 3GPP-compliant data security and protection. Its complete network life-cycle services for TD-LTE, which incorporate multi-layer network optimization, are delivered both locally and remotely by a team of global experts. This approach minimizes technical and commercial risk as well as disruptions to mobile broadband users.

Notes:
* Nokia Siemens Networks is the driving force behind TD-LTE innovation and commercialization, with many world firsts since 2009. These include five recent unprecedented speed records such as 1.6 Gbps throughput using the commercial Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station. We have won eleven TD-LTE contracts (eight of which have been commercially launched), including the first 4G/TD-LTE network in Latin America, the first TD-LTE network in Russia and the first TD-LTE network in Saudi Arabia. In fact, a GSA report of January 2013 lists thirteen commercial TD-LTE network launches around the world, with at least six of these networks being supplied by Nokia Siemens Networks.
During this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Nokia Siemens Networks received the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) Market Development Award, the first ever infrastructure vendor to win this category. In China, we are working on a multi-city TD-LTE deployment with China Mobile and recently enabled the world’s first live TV broadcast via TD-LTE.
