Bandwidth Co-Founder and CEO David Morken Recognized Nationally for Leadership, Innovation

Ernst & Young, American Business Awards honor Morken as Entrepreneur of the Year, Maverick of the Year

RALEIGH, NC – June 25, 2013 –Bandwidth, one of the nation’s leading communications technology companies proudly announces that its CEO and Co-Founder David Morken was named an Ernst & Young 2013 Entrepreneur Of The Year and Gold Stevie Award winner for Maverick of the Year in the 2013 American Business Awards.

The prestigious awards programs recognize entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year program is the world’s most prestigious business award for entrepreneurs. The unique award recognizes the significant contributions of entrepreneurs who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement. Morken was recognized as a winner of the Southeast awards, honored at a black-tie awards banquet on June 6 in Atlanta. National finalists will attend Ernst & Young’s Strategic Growth Forum in Palm Springs, CA, November 13-17.

Organized by the American Business Awards, the Maverick of the Year recognizes the individual who’s affected the most positive change on his or her company and/or industry since the beginning of 2012. David was honored for his vision and steadfast focus on doing things right, empowering the best people and embracing technology to disrupt the status quo. Additionally, Republic Wireless, a division of Bandwidth, is currently a finalist in the New Consumer Products category which will be announced on September 15.

“Winning both awards is an honor and a credit to the terrific team at Bandwidth,” said Morken. “The company is known for enabling disruptive companies to do new things with communications and has most recently gone nationwide to consumers with Republic Wireless, a hybrid Wi-Fi smartphone service that will allow people everywhere to afford a smartphone for the first time. However, as we continue to build on this success, it’s important that we hold true to the original company values that have brought us to this moment and it’s wonderful to be recognized for this vision.”

Morken co-founded Bandwidth in 1999 and has grown the company into one the nation’s largest and fastest-growing communication technology companies. Morken enters the next round of judging to determine a national Entrepreneur Of The Year, which is announced in November.

“The Ernst & Young award recipients are truly dynamic leaders who strive for business excellence and market leadership, and we are lucky to celebrate their tireless and inspirational efforts,” said Connie Austin, Southeast Entrepreneur Of The Year Partner. “We look forward to their representation of the Southeast region at the Strategic Growth Forum and the fresh thinking, new business relationships and growth strategies and best practices they will bring back to the clients and communities they serve.”

“This year’s American Business Awards was outsized in every way,” said Michael Gallagher, Stevie Awards founder and president. “More entries and more judges than ever before, and I’d have to say the most impressive collection of nominations we’ve ever received. We congratulate all of this year’s Stevie winners for their outstanding work.”
