AT&T Continues Commitment to Education, Donates Wi-Fi and Tablets to Harlem Children’s Zone

Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy School and Community Center to Gain AT&T Wi-Fi and 1,500 Tablets to Enhance Student’s Learning Experience

New York, New York, June 06, 2013

New York City, June 6, 2013 – Continuing its long-standing commitment to education, AT&T has made a contribution of AT&T Wi-Fi service and 1,500 tablets to the Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy School and Community Center.

“Technology is rapidly changing how and where students learn,” said Marissa Shorenstein, President, New York – AT&T. “As a result, schools are adopting 21st century technologies including mobile applications, web-based learning, and portable computing devices to help improve learning outcomes. Our contribution to Harlem Children’s Zone should help accelerate the adoption and benefits of mobile technologies that are reinventing how kids learn and how they’re being taught,” she said.

Technology is shaping the 21st century class from tablets, netbooks and smartphones to digital textbooks and interactive learning tools – all transforming the teacher-student model into a dynamic that fosters discovery and collaboration. To help make the 21st century class a reality for schools around the nation, AT&T delivers highly secure, high-speed access to teaching and learning applications over one of the worlds most advanced and powerful global backbone networks.

“AT&T’s generous donation of wireless access and tablets for our students will literally bring the world to our students,” said Geoffrey Canada, President and CEO of the Harlem Children’s Zone. “It will go a long way in helping us give our kids a well-rounded education so they will be competitive for top colleges and for jobs in the high-skills job market.”

At Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy School, AT&T Wi-Fi will extend throughout the campus giving teachers and students access to the Internet. The tablets will be used to enhance the learning experience in the classroom. Replacing PCs for testing and classroom activities, the teachers and students will use the tablets to go beyond traditional means of textbook learning by engaging in surveys, research and use of apps to reinforce the lesson.
