Foundation marks 50 years of giving
MANKATO, Minn., Feb. 20, 2013—The HickoryTech Foundation is pleased to announce it has awarded 35 grants totaling $125,000 to non-profit organizations across the company’s service area. With a focus on education, critical community needs, and culture, the HickoryTech Foundation aims to strengthen community programs with its financial support.
Grants are being awarded to the following organizations:

· South Central College, scholarships; $10,000
· Minnesota State University-Mankato, theatre sponsorship; $5,000
· Educare Foundation, educator grants program; $7,500
· Committee Against Domestic Abuse (CADA), counseling; $5,000
· Damiano Center, Kids Café after school lunch program; $5,000
· Feeding Our Community Partners, School Backpack Food Program; $5,000
· Fishing for Life, Armed Forces Family Fishing Program; $5,000
· Miller-Dwan Foundation, Mental Health/Chemical Dependency/Parenting Series; $5,000
· Cleveland Public School, flipped classroom technology; $5,000
· Maple River Schools, iPad technology initiative; $5,000
· VINE Faith in Action, Safe and Sound Program; $4,000
· Channel One Regional Food Bank, warehouse equipment; $3,000
· Duluth Children’s Museum, Third Thursdays cultural access; $3,000
· Open Door Health Center, staff education and support; $3,000
· Rape and Abuse Crisis Center, Teen Dating Violence Curriculum; $3,000
· Riding on Angels’ Wings, equine assisted activities for children; $3,000
· Village Family Service Center, Nokomis early literacy program; $3,000
· Merely Players Community Theatre, theatre sponsorship; $3,000
· Junior Achievement, Business Challenge Program; $3,000
· Mankato 77 Lancers Marching Band, scholarship fund; $3,000
· Red River Zoo, Edu Cart materials and Discovery Boxes; $3,000
· Boys & Girls Club of the Twin Cities, Education & Career Program; $2,500
· Boys & Girls Club of the Northland, Lincoln Park focus; $2,500
· Lutheran Social Services, Crisis Nursery Program; $2,500
· TreeHouse, One-to-One Mentoring Program; $2,500
· YWCA-Mankato, Ready to Learn Project; $2,500
· YWCA-Cass Clay, Education and Employment Program; $2,500
· Ecumen- Pathstone Living, music library; $2,000
· Vineyard Community Services, emergency dental services, $2,000
· Greater Mankato Diversity Council, Prejudice Reduction Workshops; $1,500
· House of Hope, Women’s Hope Program; $1,000
· Kids Against Hunger, Community Based Work Program; $1,000
· Waseca Arts Council, High School Art Show and Workshop; $1,000
2013 marks 50 years of giving through the HickoryTech Foundation, which began in 1963 as the company’s philanthropic arm. Over the years, millions of dollars has been given in the communities served by the company.
“Over the past 50 years, our Foundation has made a notable impact on numerous organizations and programs in the communities we serve, and our grants to 35 different organizations this year are no exception,” said John Finke, HickoryTech president and chief executive officer. “We are proud to partner with many outstanding groups in our communities through our Foundation grants program and employee volunteerism.”
Additionally, HickoryTech has been recognized as a company that gives more than 3% of pre-tax profits to non-profit and charitable organizations through cash contributions and in-kind donations.
HickoryTech Foundation grants are awarded on an annual basis and through a grant application process. Grant requests for the next fiscal year, which begins March 1, 2014, are due Dec. 1, 2013. More information on the HickoryTech Foundation is available at http://www.hickorytech.com/foundation.
HickoryTech Foundation’s Employee Matching Gift Program provided more than $23,000 in support to non-profit organizations last year. Additionally, the Foundation’s Employee Volunteer Bonus Program provides a monetary contribution to non-profit organizations at which employees volunteer 40 hours or more during a year.
