Comcast Announces Network Expansion in Downtown Knoxville

Comcast today announced it is investing more than $1 million to extend its fiber-rich network and bring fast and reliable gigabit-powered Internet to more residents and businesses in downtown Knoxville.

Comcast has started the network expansion work, installing miles of hybrid-fiber coaxial infrastructure in downtown Knoxville. Upon completion, hundreds of additional residents and businesses in the area will be able to access Xfinity and Comcast Business’s full suite of services, including residential broadband speeds up to 3 gigabits per second (Gbps) and business Internet speeds up to 100 Gbps.

“We understand the positive impact that advanced broadband can have in our communities,” said Jason Gumbs, Regional SVP for Comcast. “We’re proud to further our commitments in Knoxville and we look forward to more opportunities to bring our technologies to East Tennessee.”

For local businesses, Comcast Business offers a suite of connectivity, communications, networking, cybersecurity, wireless, and managed solutions to help organizations of different sizes prepare for what’s next. Powered by the nation’s largest Gig-speed broadband network, and backed by 24/7 customer support, Comcast Business is the nation’s largest cable provider to small and mid-size businesses and one of the leading service providers to the Enterprise market. Comcast Business has been consistently recognized by industry analysts and associations as a leader and innovator, and one of the fastest growing providers of Ethernet services.

Comcast continues to expand its technologies across East Tennessee. The company recently added new gigabit and high-speed internet service tiers to more areas in East Tennessee and has invested over $700 million in infrastructure across the state over the past three years to bridge the digital divide.

Residents and businesses in Knoxville can visit https://www.xfinity.com/local/tn to see if their address is eligible for service. Prospective customers can also call 1-800-XFINITY to inquire about service and ask about the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program. Eligible households that enroll in the program can receive $30/month toward their Internet and mobile service ($75/month on Tribal lands).
