New Point of Presence Delivers a Top Five Global Network to Meet Southern Arizona’s Digital Demands
TUCSON, Ariz. — February 23, 2022 — Involta, an industry-leading hybrid IT, cloud computing, and data center services company, is pleased to announce Tier 1 internet service provider Cogent Communications has deployed a new Point of Presence (PoP) in the company’s Tucson data center. The new PoP adds to this high-performance facility’s connectivity options providing leading Tucson healthcare, manufacturing and financial services organizations access to one of the top five backbone networks in the world.
Cogent’s Internet access and data transport operate over its fiber optic, IP data-only network, solely designed for internet traffic. Cogent serves more than 216 markets in 50 countries with over 60,000 intercity route miles and almost 40,000 metro fiber miles.
“The addition of Cogent’s presence in our Tucson data center will increase our customers’ digital capabilities and smart initiatives across the emerging Sun Corridor with an additional world-class, secure broadband and business connectivity solution,” comments Jim Buie, President of Involta. “As Tucson organizations continue to evolve and adopt modern, cloud-first technologies to drive business forward, our commitment to providing superior hybrid IT and edge services with access to multiple networks and cloud platforms has never been stronger.”
As one of Involta’s nine markets nationwide, Tucson has been recently ranked among the top 10 new U.S. tech markets and has seen significant tech startup and job growth. The Southern Arizona city saw a 90% jump in tech jobs from 2014 to 2019. Tucson is highly recognized as a leader across several critical sectors, including healthcare, aligning with Involta’s industry-specific IT services and solutions recently ranked sixth in the 2022 Best in KLAS report for Partial IT Outsourcing.
“Involta’s Tucson data center was a natural fit for us as we looked to expand our presence in the Sun Corridor due to our familiarity with the Involta team,” said Vincent Teissier, Chief Marketing Officer of Cogent Communications. “We look forward to providing reliable, high-speed connectivity solutions to this growing and vibrant business community.”
Tucson is now the third Involta data center location to offer Cogent’s connectivity solutions. Cogent also has a presence in other key Involta markets, including Boise, Idaho, and Cleveland, Ohio. Involta entered the Southern Arizona market over eight years ago. Its Tier 3 Tucson data center is a 38,000+ square foot facility with 2,072 kW of capacity.
The company continues to invest heavily in the market and is a prominent member of the Arizona Tech Council. Involta President Jim Buie serves on the Sun Corridor board, the economic development leader in Southern Arizona. Involta is active in various other industry and regional technology organizations focused on developing the technology workforce, deepening tech community relationships and driving public policy to enable innovation.
