Twenty years ago, 9/11 changed our lives as we know it. Everyone who lived through the horrific events of that day will never forget what they witnessed.
As we take this time to reflect on the loss we all experienced that day, I also vividly recall what I, and countless others, observed in the immediate aftermath. I saw humanity working together at its best in the wake of immeasurable tragedy. I saw a fighting spirit that wouldn’t let evil get the best of them. I saw unyielding support for the heroes who ran toward danger to help their fellow man.
That’s why FirstNet® is proud to work with the nonprofit 9/11 Day to channel the emotions from the annual remembrance of 9/11 into a worldwide day of unity and doing good.
The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance is designed to be a permanent tribute to the citizens and first responders killed and injured on 9/11, as well as to the many brave individuals who rose in service in response to the attack. Together we hope to inspire Americans and others to perform 20 million good deeds to mark 20 years since the terrorist attack.
To mark the occasion, volunteers across the country will take part in service projects sponsored by FirstNet to help those who need it most. This includes packing meals for people in need in the following cities: New York City, Boston, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Atlanta, St. Louis, Dallas, Phoenix, Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area.
On the evening of Sept. 11, 9/11 Day and CNN, with underwriting from FirstNet, will air a one-hour, live national television special entitled Shine A Light. The program will be broadcast from ground zero without commercial interruption. It will feature celebrities, musicians and dignitaries, as well as 9/11 families and first responders, and encourage Americans and others to rekindle the spirit of unity and compassion they felt 20 years ago. Tune in to CNN at 7pm CT/8pm ET.
