Padtec provides DWDM solution to connect Mercantil bank data centers in Belo Horizonte

Optical solution provided to the bank includes the 200 Gb/s transponder family developed by the company.

To monitor the changes of the financial market and quickly respond to customer demands for new services through a secure, reliable and high-capacity data network. This is the main objective of Banco Mercantil do Brasil for investing in increasing the transmission capacity of its DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) networks in Belo Horizonte using a solution provided by Padtec.

“Customer experience is one of the pillars of the digital transformation we are experiencing. And, in the world of finance, investing in high-capacity infrastructure is essential to remain competitive and continue to offer customers unique digital experiences”, says Robson Oliveira, Banco Mercantil do Brasil’s Infrastructure Coordinator. “In the case of financial institutions, this means looking for solutions that allow more effective use of transport networks and that provide a high level of security, availability, transmission and storage of data. In this regard, Padtec is an important ally. In addition to the technical quality of its equipment, the installation, operation and maintenance services offered by the company are a differential that favors the sustainable growth of our network infrastructure”, he adds.

To connect the bank’s data centers in Belo Horizonte, Padtec supplied transponders and route protection systems. The project’s technical highlight is the use of the family of 200 Gb/s transponders developed by the company for the transport of multiple 16 Gb/s data channels, in a network protocol called Fiber Channel, which is suitable for interconnect applications between servers and data storage systems.

In line with the trends of DWDM technology for the financial sector, the solutions for SAN (Storage Area Networks) Extension and DCI (Data Center Interconnect) in Padtec’s LightPad i6400G platform are designed to meet the demands of this market with an excellent cost-performance ratio. “The products of this platform are in perfect harmony with the needs of this segment, which include high performance, low latency, network availability and secure and controlled operation”, says Argemiro Sousa, Padtec’s Business Director.

The partnership between the companies also includes the provision of services, by Padtec, for managing the operation and maintenance of the Mercantil do Brasil bank’s optical networks. “Offering a complete telecommunications service solution, which includes everything from system planning to network installation, operation and maintenance, adds strength to our portfolio and to the company”, highlights Argemiro. “For this support, we now have more than 40 points of presence distributed throughout all regions of Brazil and in Argentina and Colombia”, he concludes.
