[Shenzhen, China, February 28, 2020] Huawei released the industry’s leading Smart 8T8R solution. This solution incorporates software-defined antennas (SDA), FDD dual-band 8T8R RRUs, and innovative algorithms. It supports on-demand multi-sector deployments across 2G, 3G, and 4G based on software configuration to enable convenient capacity expansion based on current hardware while achieving smooth evolution to 5G. This places operators in an advantageous position to address capacity issues with less CAPEX and OPEX in urban areas.
Innovative SDA Enables Flexible 4T4R Multi-Sector and 8T8R Three-Sector Configuration and Smooth Evolution to 5G
SDA combines Huawei’s unique adaptive power sharing and phase calibration technologies and innovative baseband beamforming mechanism, allowing antenna lobes to be adjusted through software configuration. This enables networks to provide outstanding performance by tapping into the huge bandwidth across the 1.8 GHz to 2.6 GHz bands. Three-sector and multi-sector coexistence is also supported across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G on a single antenna, helping increase LTE capacity by 1.7 times. Furthermore, antenna replacement is not required for capacity expansion and evolution to 5G, protecting operator investment.
Industry’s First FDD Dual-Band 8T8R RRU Reduces TCO for Operators
The dual-band 8T8R RRU uses the integrated wideband power amplifier that supports both FDD 1.8 GHz and 2.1 GHz, saving the tower space and rental costs. Power sharing is also supported among the bands of different radio access technologies (RATs) deployed on the same module. This adds extraordinary capabilities for operators to improve experience for cell-edge subscribers. Adopting innovative RF cluster interfaces, the module significantly simplifies deployment by reducing the number of required cables while also making mobile network more robust. Additionally, the module supports evolution to 5G through one-clink software upgrade.
Innovative Algorithm Improves Performance and Adaptability
Power sharing between sectors automatically allocates power resources in line with user distribution, ensuring capacity improvement across a full range of scenarios. Adaptive switching between TM4 and TM9 takes full account of UE penetration rates, maximally balancing the capacity demands for TM4 UEs and experience requirements for TM9 UEs. Algorithm coordination among SDAs, RRUs, and baseband units supports beamforming adjustment, providing a new technique for operators to improve cell capacity and user experience. In addition, Huawei’s innovative algorithm allows for cost-efficient reconstruction of GSM and UMTS networks.
Faced growing challenges associated with continued increase in LTE traffic and accelerated 5G commercial adoption, operators must take balanced approaches to achieving both LTE network expansion and quick, smooth evolution to 5G. Huawei’s Smart 8T8R solution allows for one-time SDA and 8T8R RRU deployment to serve multi-sector deployments across 2G, 3G, and 4G while supporting smooth evolution to 5G through software-based configuration, providing better choices for operators to build mobile networks.
