AT&T Announces Believe Phoenix Initiative to Fight Hunger

Funding, Employee Engagement Will Help Nonprofits Expand Outreach Programs
AT&T* is launching a new initiative, called Believe Phoenix℠, to combat hunger and food insecurity in the Greater Phoenix area.

In Arizona, 1 in 7 people, and 1 in 4 children, struggle with hunger. Through Believe Phoenix, AT&T is bringing together its leadership, employees and resources to work alongside nonprofits and community leaders on this issue. This program is an extension of AT&T Believes℠, a larger company-wide initiative which aims to create positive change in local communities.

“Everyone deserves to live and work without worrying about where their next meal is coming from, but that’s not the reality for too many in our community,” said Toni Morales Broberg, president of AT&T Arizona. “We’re passionate about addressing this problem and making a positive impact.”

AT&T is investing $275,000 in contributions to local nonprofit organizations to fund and expand their hunger and food insecurity outreach programs. Contributions include:

$150,000 to Saint Mary’s Food Bank to assist Children’s Feeding Programs, which provide food items to children in need and their families.
$50,000 to United Food Bank to provide food delivery to those most vulnerable by helping fund a new distribution truck.
$25,000 to Saint Vincent de Paul to help the Urban Farm fund permaculture and chemical-free methods to grow and harvest hundreds of pounds of fresh produce every week. These fruits and vegetables are used in their kitchen and added to food boxes for families.
$25,000 to A New Leaf to assist the Autumn House in providing meals on a consistent basis to their 22-bed domestic violence shelter for women, children and men fleeing abuse.
$20,000 to Phoenix Children’s Hospital to support the Meals Assistance Program, which provides meals to families in need.
$5,000 to the Joy Bus Diner, a local charity that delivers chef-crafted meals to cancer patients Valley-wide.
AT&T plans to continue the program with future investments. In addition, we’re engaging our employees to create a lasting impact. We’re kicking off Believe Phoenix with a company volunteer event at St. Mary’s Food Bank to help assemble food boxes and backpacks that will be delivered to families and children in need. Believe Phoenix will continue to match employees with volunteer opportunities to provide help where it’s needed most on an ongoing basis.

“This significant investment by AT&T is helping to create a lasting and positive impact in our efforts to combat hunger where it exists,” said Tom Kertis, president and CEO of St. Mary’s Food Bank. “St. Mary’s Food Bank is proud to partner with Believe Phoenix to further connect AT&T employees to our community.”
