USA FIBER Crosses the Potomac, Announces Fortune 500 Customer Purchases More Than 24 Miles of Network

September 7th, 2016 | Ashburn, VA – Today, USA FIBER which engineers, builds, and operates mission critical underground conduit and dark fiber networks for clients, announced it has completed the Potomac River crossing portion of the new Ashburn Express Cable System (Ashburn Express). In conjunction with the Potomac River crossing, USA FIBER also revealed the sale of more than 24 miles of conduit to a Fortune 500 company. The Ashburn Express is a purpose built network platform being constructed between Ashburn, VA and Baltimore, MD on a unique low latency route. The cable system will create new supply for core carrier networks, network platforms, and diversity in the greater Baltimore/Washington metro area. The Ashburn Express bypasses Washington DC without the need to light or regenerate the fiber to reach Ashburn from Maryland. This network is direct, purpose built, scalable and engineered to perform over the next 20 years of market requirements. The announcement marks an exciting step forward for USA FIBER and its continued expansion of unique underground fiber infrastructure.

“USA FIBER is a company built to deliver fiber infrastructure that solves for the most demanding requirements, where security, performance, and scale matter. Increasingly we are working with clients looking to establish network platforms as their architecture moves from the traditional hub and spoke, to an interconnect oriented architecture where the data center plays a critical role. This shift is driving a greater emphasis on connecting a headquarters facility to a primary data center, and engaging service providers in the open access platforms there for IP, unified communications, cloud, and other services. These services are dependent on the network to be delivered to the end users sitting at the HQ and beyond. Our company’s foundation, laid over the past 58 years, in the mission critical communications infrastructure industry positions us very well in the market to support this shift. We are thrilled to be delivering conduit to this client, and ecstatic to have completed a major milestone for the company in crossing under the Potomac River.” said John Schmitt, Chief Revenue Officer at USA FIBER.

In addition to private fiber services for clients and the recently completed Ashburn ring, USA FIBER provides a multi duct and high count dark fiber network connecting a number of the major data centers in Ashburn. USA FIBER’s newest project currently under construction, the Ashburn Express, will be a low latency cable system engineered to connect Ashburn to Montgomery County, MD and on to Baltimore, MD, that is distinct and separate from the current routes that go through Washington DC. Cloud services, government, carriers and enterprise clients will be able to reduce latency by upwards of 25% and connect to Ashburn without regens once the network is complete in 2017.
