Name change reflects additional day of colocation uptime for leap year
Emeryville, Calif., Apr. 1, 2016—365 Data Centers, one of the top U.S. colocation providers by market presence, today announced that it has changed its name to 366 Data Centers in recognition of the fact that this year is 366 days, including leap day. The name change was put in place because of extensive market research and focus groups that found confusion over whether the company provided 100% uptime for only 365 out of 366 days this year. 366 Data Centers has one of the industry’s strongest records for uptime.
“Our customers have come to expect our facilities to be up all the time,” said John Scanlon, CEO, 366 Data Centers. “I mean, we’ve had 100% uptime across all of our 14 facilities for seven years. So, I think the name change makes a lot of sense, because if we were only up 365 out of 366 days, that would only be like 99.7268% uptime, and that would be terrible.”
The tech industry has looked upon the change favorably as it clarifies the company’s mission.
“The first time I met with 365’s CEO John Scanlon at PTC, he asked me if I had heard of 365,” said Kyle, director of technology at a global CDN. “I was like, yeah. 365 – we’ll take care of you 365 days a year, but on leap day, @#!% you. So, the name change makes a ton of sense. Glad they’ve seen the light.”
Even the 366 operations teams have broadly supported the move.
“Day in and day out, we go above and beyond to exceed our customer expectations,” said Jason Kiser, vice president, operations, 366 Data Centers. “So, when the marketing team told us that we were changing our name to 366, the entire ops team was behind it 100%. It’s part of what we do, even if it means working one more day this year.”
366 Data Centers’ facilities are HIPAA, PCI DSS, SSAE 16, SOC 2 and ISAE 3402 compliant and feature redundant power, cooling, connectivity and security 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and 366 days per year.
