Sprint Improves Its Network as Competition Heats Up in Kansas City

Wireless consumers are the winners in a fiercely competitive market

By Mike Hennigan, Regional Vice President, Network

While the temperatures outside might be dropping, things have been heating up in Kansas City’s fiercely competitive wireless market. Today independent mobile analytics firm RootMetrics® has released its second half 2015 report, and we’re pleased to share the following results demonstrating our continued improvement in the market:

  • Sprint is tied for #1 in network reliability
  • Sprint is tied for #1 in call performance
  • Sprint is tied for #1 in text performance
  • Sprint has the fastest median download speed at 20.9Mbps, up from 15.4Mbps since the previous report in May – a 36% increase in speed

Delivering the best wireless experience is our top priority both here at home and in markets across the country. The other carriers are also working hard and we commend their improvement in Kansas City. It’s our local businesses and consumers that benefit from such fantastic competition, and you can count on Sprint to continue to keep improving and striving for #1 in every metric.

Improving Our Hometown Network
Since RootMetrics’ previous report in May, Sprint has continued to focus on building and fine-tuning the network in Kansas City. Our local engineers added more capacity and expanded coverage across all of our spectrum bands – 1.9GHz, 800MHz and 2.5GHz. In addition, they upgraded hundreds of 2.5GHz cell sites with carrier aggregation – advanced wireless technology that doubles capacity and speed on capable devices with peak speeds in excess of 100Mbps. Check out the speedtest result on the right captured last week with a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 in Overland Park.

At the neighborhood level, we added more capacity and improved speeds in the Legends area, and we expanded our coverage in Leawood, Overland Park, Prairie Village, Mission Hills, Lawrence, and Kansas City, Missouri.

As for public venues, in the past six months we upgraded the outdoor distributed antenna system in Lawrence, and we optimized our wireless systems in and around Kaufman Stadium (where RCR Wireless reports our network “reigns supreme”), Arrowhead Stadium, Sporting Park, and Sprint Center for even better coverage and data speeds.

Kansas City is a wonderful home to the employees and families of Sprint. We’re proud to serve the community with a network that provides great reliability, call and text performance, along with some blazing fast speeds. We’ll keep improving and working hard to be #1 in every metric, and we thank our customers for their support (for the rest of you – it’s time to give us a try!)

Rankings based on RootMetrics Kansas City (November 2015) RootScore® Report for mobile performance as tested on best available plans and devices on 4 mobile networks across all available network types. The RootMetrics award is not an endorsement of Sprint. Your results may vary. See www.rootmetrics.com for details.
