Remote SIM management and provisioning essential for building global M2M ecosystems
Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC, news, filings) and Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), headquartered in Munich, Germany, have entered a partnership to deliver end-to-end remote SIM management services. The services will be delivered through Device Connection Platform (DCP), Ericsson’s leading Internet of Things/M2M platform, and G&D’s subscription management platform SmartTrust AirOn.
The integration of the two platforms will enable the remote provisioning and management of embedded SIM profiles and policies within a highly secure process. As a result, DCP-hosted operators will be able to manage embedded SIM connectivity remotely as part of global Internet of Things/M2M solutions, and will be well positioned to develop innovative partnerships in these areas with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
At the same time, enterprises and OEMs can manage embedded SIM devices across multiple operators and regions throughout the complete device life cycle, from manufacturing to phase-out.
The services will be delivered in accordance with the GSMA’s industry-standard Embedded SIM Specification.
The proof of concept for Ericsson and G&D’s offering was recently demonstrated at the Asia IoT Business Platform event held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on August 25 and 26, 2015. The demonstration, which also included change of subscription between two different M2M connectivity platforms, was presented with DCP-hosted operator Indosat, member of Ooredoo Group, and one of its partner operators.
Mirela Juravle, Head of M2M Project, INDOSAT says: “With remote subscription management PoC in partnership with Ericsson and G&D, Indosat is the only operator in Indonesia to showcase such innovative technology and demonstrate it’s commitment to provide services that simplify global M2M deployments in Indonesia and South East Asia.Having a dedicated IoT/M2M expert team, Indosat ambition is to offer a full range of M2M solutions which can be combined to offer a flexible approach from pure M2M connectivity, managed connectivity to one-stop-shop solutions for local and global M2M customers”.
Anders Olin, Vice President, Network Functions, Ericsson, says: “Remote management and provisioning is essential for building global M2M ecosystems that deliver benefits for people, business and society. By enabling these capabilities and minimizing the complexity of managing connected devices on a worldwide scale, our partnership with G&D delivers an unparalleled experience for operators, OEMs and enterprises exploring the possibilities of the Networked Society.”
Carsten Ahrens, Vice President, Telecommunications Division, G&D, says: “We appreciate this partnership with Ericsson that combines the Device Connection Platform with the highly secure subscription management capabilities of G&D’s SmartTrust AirOn platform. G&D is the market leader in subscription management and we have developed a solution based on a professional managed service environment that today actively manages about 2 billion SIMs and any type of communication devices over-the-air for various use cases.”
