GENBAND’s New Advanced Media Software Delivers Unprecedented SBC Scalability and Flexibility to Service Providers and Enterprises

Extends market leadership by offering independently scalable signaling and media capabilities with the new Q50 Media Platform for Distributed SBC and virtualized environments

Orlando, FL, May 18, 2015GENBAND™, a leading provider of real time communications software solutions and recently named 2015 CNBC Disruptor 50, today unveiled its Advanced Media Software (AMS) and Q50 Media Platform, key elements of its Distributed Session Border Controller (D-SBC) solution. The D-SBC is a next generation, software-based solution offering advanced independently scalable signaling and media processing functionality. The Q50 leverages Intel® Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK)-based architecture and GENBAND’s AMS to perform high definition audio and video multimedia processing with industry-leading transcoding scalability. The Q50 is designed to meet the most demanding next generation IP communications needs of both fixed and mobile service providers, as well as large enterprises.

“Our new Q50 Media Platform enables our Distributed Session Border Controller solution to open up a world of flexibility and deployment options for our customers,” said John McCready, President of Products and Corporate Development at GENBAND. “The Q50’s unique and powerful media processing capabilities enables operators to take a differentiated approach to SBC deployment to best optimize their investments in network resources, whether as an appliance or in a hybrid, cloud or NFV environment – network wide. The Q50 is already engaged in several trials and available for order.”

The Q50 is controlled by GENBAND’s advanced SBC signaling software, running independently on either a Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) server, in a virtualized cloud or in an open, standards-based elastically scalable NFV environment. GENBAND will demonstrate the Q50 as part of the D-SBC solution in a hybrid network with elastic NFV cloud configurations at its annual customer and partner summit, Perspectives15, taking place May 17-21 at the JW Marriott Grand Lakes Orlando.

Key Takeaways:

  • GENBAND’s new Q50 Media Platform delivers advanced media functionalities for its next generation Distributed Session Border Controller solution.
  • The independently scalable signaling and media D-SBC architecture offers service providers and enterprises multiple deployment options, running in either a COTS appliance; in a virtualized or hybrid cloud environment; or in a fully elastically scalable NFV-enabled datacenter.
  • The Q50 offers significant energy savings by leveraging the latest high performance, high density COTS server technology in a compact footprint.
