Integra Expands Security Portfolio, Offers Protection Against Denial of Service Attacks with DDoS Mitigation Service

Cloud-based service actively detects and mitigates DDoS attacks to protect against online service disruptions

Vancouver, Wash. – October 21, 2014 – Integra™, a provider of fiber-based, carrier-grade networking, communications and technology solutions, has introduced DDoS Mitigation Service. Using proven, industry-leading technologies from Arbor Networks, Integra’s DDoS Mitigation Service automatically monitors network traffic to detect and mitigate distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) threats at the network edge, providing fully managed, off-premise protection for Integra customers’ network infrastructures and online presences.

Denial-of-service attacks, in which malicious actors use massive volumes of network traffic to overwhelm the resources of a targeted network or site domain, are increasing in frequency. Integra’s DDoS Mitigation Service combines a remote, cloud-based approach to detecting these attacks with hands-on, 24/7/365 management from Integra’s network security experts to provide rapid response and complete mitigation of attacks as they begin, while still allowing valid network traffic in the midst of an attack.

“Today’s enterprises and multi-location networks are more likely than ever before to be the target of a denial-of-service attack, and the costs of downtime, data loss and damage to reputation associated with a successful breach can be impossible to recover,” said Joseph Harding, Integra’s chief marketing officer. “With Integra’s DDoS Mitigation Service, customers can rest assured that their network, web sites and online services will remain online and fully secured in the event of a denial-of-service attack.”

While extremely effective against viruses and other attacks against network resources, network firewalls are no longer sufficient protection against DDoS attacks, in part because they aren’t able to distinguish between malicious network sessions and those that are spoofed to appear legitimate. On-premises approaches to stopping DDoS attacks fall short because the customers’ own network resources are inevitably impacted by an attack. Integra’s DDoS Mitigation Service provides a network-based solution that differentiates from on-premise solutions in that the carrier network absorbs the malicious traffic without impacting customers’ Internet bandwidth. For this and other reasons, network-based solutions offer a superior defense compared to on-premise solutions.

Integra’s DDoS Mitigation Service joins the company’s Cloud Firewall Service to create a comprehensive portfolio of fully managed and hosted security services, providing customers multiple layers of carrier-class network security while keeping costs and required technical resources to a minimum. As with any Integra service, DDoS Mitigation Service can be bundled into customers’ service agreements with standard, predictable monthly pricing.
