QTS Receives Open-IX Certification for Three of Its Mega Data Centers

Data Center Industry Strengthened by Interconnection Standards

Overland Park, Kan. (May 27, 2014) – QTS Realty Trust (NYSE: QTS), one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing providers of data center facilities and cloud services, and a leader in security and compliance, announced today that it has received OIX-2 certification for its Atlanta-Metro, Atlanta-Suwanee and Richmond data centers.  The certification is awarded by the Open-IX Association (OIX), a non-profit, neutral body of volunteers from the Internet created to improve the landscape of Internet peering and interconnection in the United States.

Open-IX encourages the development of neutral and distributed Internet exchanges in North America while promoting uniform, cost-efficient standards of performance for interconnections backed by the Internet community.  The association aims to promote common and uniform specifications for data transfer and physical connectivity and improve IX performance by developing criteria and methods of measurement to reduce the complexity that restricts interconnection in fragmented markets.

“Achieving OIX-2 certification for three QTS data centers demonstrates our commitment to provide our customers with best-in-class, carrier-neutral Internet connectivity and interconnection options at our data centers,” said Jim Reinhart, chief operations officer, operations and development – QTS. “We fully support OIX’s efforts to foster the development of critical technical and operating standards for the data center industry, ultimately for the benefit of all Internet users.”

The OIX Association is adopting a hybrid version of the European non-profit model in which exchange operations are spread across multiple data centers in a specific geographic market.  The goal is to create a new network of Internet Exchange Points housed in multiple neutral data center facilities, as well as interconnect efficiencies and additional infrastructure resiliency, which allow participants to interact and exchange content.

“Open-IX is pleased to welcome QTS Realty Trust to its expanding community of OIX- certified data center facilities,” added Martin Hannigan, co-founder and treasurer of Open-IX.  “QTS’ data centers join 14 additional OIX-2 certified facilities that have adopted Open-IX standards and are helping to facilitate the improvement of Internet peering and interconnect throughout the world.”
