New Technology Pilot First in the Region
[Manama, Bahrain, 21 January 2014]: Batelco, the official Telecoms Partner of Bahrain International Air Show 2014 (BIAS 2014) and Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, were proud and delighted to showcase 10Gbps GPON, a new ultra-high speed broadband solution for the first time at Batelco’s Chalet during (BIAS) 2014.
Batelco Chairman Shaikh Hamad Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and Batelco Bahrain CEO Rashid Abdulla were joined by Huawei Vice President Middle East Mr. Huang Ji to experience the live demonstration. Also in attendance were a number of Batelco’s Board of Directors, General Managers and Huawei senior executives.
The two companies demonstrated the capabilities of the new technology through several services which during BIAS, including outdoors around the exhibition area. Visitors to Batelco’s Chalet had the opportunity to experience broadband speeds of up to 10Gbps and a live demonstration of the Batelco play OTT Entertainment Service.
Furthermore, all visitors to the Trade area and visitors and exhibitors at the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) Exhibition Tent benefitted from open access to the an ultra-high speed broadband Wi-Fi service. Batelco and Huawei have installed a high end Wi-Fi solution to provide the ultra highspeed Wi-Fi service to the outdoor locations. Wi-Fi over the new 10Gbps technology provided the airshow spectators with stable ultra-high speed connectivity to enjoy and share the excitement of the event.
This latest 10G-GPON (Gigabit Passive Optic Network) technology is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain and Middle East region, confirming Batelco’s standing as a leading communications company.
To date Batelco has deployed an FTTx broadband network covering key strategic enterprise and consumer areas around the Kingdom, and is looking forward to new technology which will compliment its fiber roll out.
Batelco Bahrain CEO Rashid Abdulla said that Batelco was delighted to be first to demonstrate such technology for Bahrain and the region, hoping that with such Ultra-Broadband network capabilities the Company will be able to provide more advanced IPTV services nationwide.
“BIAS 2014, as an international style event, is an excellent venue to showcase our capability in the latest technologies,” he said.
“We appreciate Huawei’s support in rolling out the ultra high-speed services for visitors to our Chalet and throughout the Airshow Trade Area and Exhibition Tent. Huawei has been a partner of Batelco for a long time and provides various ICT solutions to support Batelco’s services to its customers,” added Mr. Abdulla.
