Network expansion driven by enterprise, carrier demand for easily delivered bandwidth technology
HOUSTON – Jan. 14, 2014 – Alpheus Communications, a leading provider of Texas metro-regional fiber and networking solutions, has expanded its network to 129,000 Ethernet-qualified locations to meet growing demand from businesses and carriers for flexible, cost-effective and easily implemented bandwidth technology.
The 36 percent increase in Alpheus’ network reach during the last two years illustrates the accelerating trend of businesses migrating from TDM and T1 circuits to Ethernet over copper due to its ease of deployment, unmatched scalability and lower cost-per-megabit compared to traditional network services.
Additionally, the ongoing strength of Texas’ economy has attracted new businesses and has sparked new-building construction, which combined with Alpheus expanding Ethernet capabilities to more central offices, has broadened the company’s network footprint, including coverage in South Texas.
“Our business plan has positioned Alpheus to capitalize on the shift of carriers and businesses from traditional network options to modern, standards-based Ethernet,” said Alpheus CEO Scott Widham. “Carriers and enterprises get scalability, flexibility and cost-effectiveness, while our channel partners have more revenue-generating options from selling a broader portfolio of Ethernet services available via the Alpheus network.”
For enterprises, Ethernet services are particularly appealing because they can easily upgrade to bandwidth technology that supports mission-critical and core functions such as data, voice, video, IP and VPN services. And for carriers, Alpheus offers an easy technology upgrade, transitioning carrier customers from TDM circuits to Ethernet by creating an NNI connection, simplifying the ordering and provisioning processes, and creating more opportunity to sell Ethernet services to their end-users.
