- United Fiber & Data completes fiber pull across the Passaic River into Newark, NJ
- The route serves as part of the redundant ring into the carrier hotel located at 165 Halsey Street in Newark
- The next phase of UFD’s network build includes pulling fiber below the streets of Newark City
YORK, Pa. – November 19, 2013 – United Fiber & Data (UFD) announces today that it has completed its northern New Jersey fiber-optic build through Harrison, across the Passaic River and landing on the banks of Newark. Responding to rising demand for capacity to and from Newark, the completed route is one lateral of the redundant ring UFD is building to the carrier hotel located at 165 Halsey Street in that city. UFD’s geographically diverse route connects Newark to Manhattan and other high-profile trading and financial exchange locations in the New York/New Jersey region.
UFD is now preparing for the next phase of its network build, which includes pulling cable under the streets of the city of Newark in the coming weeks. The Passaic River crossing is one segment of UFD’s fiber-optic network construction connecting New York and Ashburn, Virginia, via a completely diverse route. Once completed, the network will travel through New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland along a route that bypasses the more traditional I-95 corridor most service providers follow.
“Reaching this point is a huge milestone for UFD. We’ve been mapping and coordinating in the area from earlier this year,” says Christopher Lodge, President and Chief Operating Officer of UFD. “Our totally diverse route provides our customers and partners with redundancy and the critical backup they need. The UFD network enhances the services available today and supplies a strong alternative to other providers’ offerings.”
UFD’s low-latency dark fiber network is designed to provide unparalleled security, capacity and performance. The 375-mile path will provide more than 97,000 businesses and 3,000 cell towers along the route with fiber access, while avoiding the technology crowding normally seen along other major paths.
