Growing multi-vendor community driving interoperability testing to enable real SDN/NFV deployments

October 2, 2013

RAD, the industry leader in Service Assured Access solutions for service providers, and Cyan (NYSE: CYNI), a leading provider of software-defined networking (SDN) and packet-optical solutions for network operators, today announced that RAD has joined the Cyan Blue Orbit ecosystem of partners focused on delivering real-world, multi-vendor SDN and network functions virtualization (NFV) applications.

“There is a lot of industry chatter around the promise of SDN/NFV, but when it comes down to it, carriers want proof beyond the hype to know our solutions can be successfully deployed,” said Yuri Gittik, Head of Strategic Marketing, RAD. “The Blue Orbit ecosystem allows us to test and demonstrate interoperability between our innovative solutions, including Distributed NFV, and other multi-vendor SDN solutions to ensure smooth infrastructure rollouts.”

RAD’s joining of Blue Orbit follows the recent completion by Cyan of end-to-end Ethernet services provisioning and “one-click OAM” as well as alarms and topology support for the RAD ETX-2. This integration enables network operators to have visibility and management of RAD platforms through Cyan’s Blue Planet SDN Platform.

“The addition of RAD to the Blue Orbit roster demonstrates the supplier community’s desire to come together and push interoperability testing and real deployments forward,” said Joe Cumello, Chief Marketing Officer, Cyan. “As the Blue Orbit ecosystem continues to grow, so too do the benefits for network operators such as carriers, data center operators, and large enterprises around the globe.”

Blue Orbit was formed in June 2013 to demonstrate interoperability among SDN solutions from an array of partners to lessen the risk network operators would otherwise face and accelerate the delivery of production SDN and NFV use cases. Blue Orbit partners provide applicable solution elements to Cyan’s California-based Blue Orbit Lab. From this facility, Cyan, Blue Orbit partners, and customers are able to test and demonstrate SDN and NFV solutions.

RAD customers include operators and service providers such as Bharti Airtel, British Telecom, CenturyLink, China Mobile, China Telecom, Deutsche Telekom/T-Mobile, Embratel, France Telecom/Orange, Hutchison, KDDI, KPN, SingTel, SoftBank, Telefónica, Telekom Austria, TeliaSonera, Telstra, Telus, Verizon, and Vodafone.
