[Amsterdam, the Netherlands, October 22, 2013]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today showcased its key SoftCOM achievements and solutions that can be applied to all fields of carrier networks at the Broadband World Forum 2013. In the network OSS and Service field, Huawei launched the core component of its software-defined networking (SDN) solution and its SDN/network functions virtualization (NFV) orchestration and management system — NetMatrix. With NetMatrix, end-to-end (E2E) orchestration and management can be implemented, services can be programmed, and network resources can be distributed on demand. NetMatrix opens up network capabilities, speeds up service innovation, and helps carriers profit more from their networks.
In the post-Internet era, networks will rely heavily on SDN/NFV and cloud data centers. Carriers will be faced with the challenge of how to orchestrate and manage networks, introduce new services, and convert high bandwidth into high value.
NetMatrix enables E2E inter-controller orchestration, SDN and traditional network orchestration, and network and DC resource orchestration. In addition, NetMatrix adjusts and optimizes network resources intelligently based on real-time network traffic so that network resources can be distributed on demand. Furthermore, it provides E2E abstracted service capabilities by shielding complicated network technology and device differences among vendors, which simplifies operations support systems (OSS) integration. With a model-driven programmable framework, NetMatrix speeds up new service launches because carriers can adapt to changes in user needs immediately and meet over-the-top (OTT) requirements more flexibly and efficiently, creating a win-win situation for carriers and fast-developing OTT companies.
Lu Hongju, President of the Huawei OSS and Service Product Line, said, “SDN is starting a virtual, automatic, intelligent and open network revolution. However, the most far-reaching impact brought by SDN is on user experience-oriented networks. NetMatrix, a Huawei SDN/NFV orchestration and management system, is devoted to helping carriers deploy their networks based on services, and convert high bandwidth into high value.”
SoftCOM is a future-oriented end-to-end ICT network architecture based on ideas such as cloud computing, SDN, NFV, and network openness. It can help carriers tackle the challenges posed by ICT integration and seize new market opportunities. Huawei has been actively participating in SDN standardization and actively cooperating with carriers, vendors, and research institutions to drive SDN deployment in carrier networks.
