Austin Data Center enhances the County’s delivery of IT services, information availability, and security
Dallas, TX (October 22, 2013) – Building on its reputation as a premier colocation solutions provider in the state of Texas, CyrusOne (:CONE, news) is pleased to welcome Travis County Information Technology Services (ITS) to its newest Austin, Texas, data center located at Met Center Business Park. Travis County ITS, which supports 43 county departments with 20 lines of business, selected CyrusOne and the Austin Met Center II site to house its production data center environment.
“The goal of Travis County ITS is to enhance the overall performance of all county departments by providing high-quality information technology services,” explained Travis County Interim CIO Tanya Acevedo. “We assist in the execution of their functional responsibilities through innovative technology infrastructure and helpful technology services.”
“We are excited to welcome such a valued customer,” said Amanda Justice, data center solutions executive at CyrusOne. “The Travis County ITS group really has paved the way for other local government organizations to take advantage of data center colocation. All of CyrusOne’s U.S. data centers offer a tremendous opportunity for local government entities to centralize their IT operations into the trusted safety and security of CyrusOne colocation facilities.”
Prior to colocating with CyrusOne, Travis County had a data center housed in an antiquated basement site. In addition to the risk of system failures that could disrupt many day-to-day county operations, the county was running out of space for IT equipment needed to process and store increasingly large volumes of data. These challenges prompted Travis County ITS to review outsourcing options and begin the process of migrating its data center to CyrusOne’s Austin Met Center II facility. As a result, Travis County has the increased bandwidth it needs, better redundancy for network connections, and the safety and security of CyrusOne’s top-tier data center.
“I’m a big believer in colocation and in CyrusOne,” said IT Operations Director for Travis County Walter LaGrone. “Letting an experienced provider like CyrusOne manage facility-related areas such as heating, cooling, power, and physical security enables me and my team to focus on operating the county’s IT infrastructure. By freeing us from data center operations, we can now more efficiently deliver the service and quality that Travis County constituents require.”
