Comcast Business Provides Economic Growth Engine in Tennessee’s Williamson County with Its Network

Access to Ethernet, Internet, advanced voice, and cloud services accelerates economic growth and business opportunities for existing companies and helps attract new ones

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – July 23, 2013 – Comcast Business, a unit of Comcast Cable, the nation’s largest video, high-speed Internet and phone provider to business and residential customers, today announced that its network, available throughout Williamson County, including dedicated connections to more than 100 office buildings, is helping the fastest growing county in Tennessee to remain competitive. Comcast Business’s comprehensive portfolio of business services benefits 1,500 local businesses and serves as critical technology infrastructure to help attract new ones.

More than 6,000 businesses are based in the metro Nashville area with more relocating there due to the educated workforce, positive business climate, and high quality of life. Williamson County has benefited from this trend and established a thriving business community and proven track record of attracting various Fortune 1000 companies. Comcast’s advanced network provides local businesses with high-performance bandwidth options. Comcast Business delivers Ethernet, Internet, advanced voice, video, and cloud services, ranging from a broadband connection for a small business up to a scalable, high-capacity Ethernet network service that can scale up to 10 Gbps.

“By investing in the technology infrastructure in Williamson County, we hope to support the continued growth of each of the businesses in this community,” said Bob Deckard, regional vice president of Comcast Business. “With more than 1,000 Comcast employees in the metro Nashville area, we are committed to providing business in Williamson County and the surrounding area with advanced network services.”

Local Economic Impact of Broadband

Businesses increasingly rely on high capacity bandwidth and Internet connectivity to help improve productivity, support the shift to cloud-based IT services, and drive overall growth. Increasingly, technology infrastructure plays a key role in Williamson County’s economic growth as businesses make network connectivity options a key decision criterion when deciding on their office locations.

“Although we are only 10 percent of the population in the region, Williamson County has accounted for 30 percent of the growth in the last five years, and we expect that trend to continue,” said Jeremiah Pyron, Office of Economic Development, Williamson County. “Businesses today are so dependent on bandwidth that network infrastructure is a critical factor when they are picking new office locations or expanding existing ones. We view network providers like Comcast as foundational to the future success and economic growth of our County.”

“In the past two years, the City of Franklin saw 4,300 new jobs and we expect this growth to continue, especially in the McEwen-Carothers intersection area with its expanding corporate campuses,” said Dr. Ken Moore, Mayor of Franklin, Tenn. “We appreciate Comcast’s investment in our City and in creating an environment that is Internet ready for businesses in the area.”

Data Center Connectivity & Businesses Moving to the Cloud

The availability of network infrastructure in Williamson County is also creating growth opportunities for local data centers and enabling businesses to utilize more hosted and cloud services. A national data center and cloud solutions provider, Peak 10, operates three data centers in Williamson County that have fiber-based Ethernet connections to Comcast’s network and offer mid-market businesses a variety of cloud computing, data center, and other managed IT services.

“In the last 18 months we’ve seen many small and medium-sized businesses move away from having servers and storage in their offices to outsourcing their IT infrastructure. Quite simply, the cloud and IT infrastructure-as-a-service need a reliable, high-performance network, so Comcast’s Ethernet services are critical for our customers to connect to our data centers,” said David Smith, vice president and general manager of Peak 10. “We have had a successful partnership with Comcast Business over the past few years and their cost-effective, quick-turnaround Ethernet connectivity solutions have been attractive to our customers and helped us grow our own business.”
