Leading data center services provider recognized at the 2013 Uptime Institute Green Enterprise IT Awards
Overland Park, Kan. (April 3, 2013) – QTS (Quality Technology Services) received an honorable mention in the 2013 Uptime Institute Green Enterprise IT (GEIT) Awards program for its isolated rack cooling duct, which was developed in-house at the QTS Atlanta Metro data center. The isolated rack cooling duct (Patent Pending No. 13/747,231) delivers in-rack cooling to installed equipment, resulting in energy and cost savings. QTS was recognized under the Audacious Idea award category for its invention.
The innovative cooling duct decreases the level of required under-floor static pressure in the data center, which decreases running CRAC units by approximately 30 percent. Additionally, the device provides cold aisle isolation by reducing hot and cold air mixing, which eliminates containment expense and the need for perforated tiles. The cooling duct can be implemented with any rack system or data center cabinet.

The development of the isolated rack cooling duct comes on the heels of several energy efficiency improvements that QTS has made in the past year. In 2012, the company established its Sustainability and Recoveries Group, which focuses on energy efficiency, recycling, responsible resource management and strategic sourcing. Since 2011, QTS has recycled more than six million pounds of materials from its data centers, including copper, aluminum, steel, plastic and concrete.
