The Company’s online brand has a critical role to play as Verizon’s global presence grows, and seeks to attract top talent to move the business forward. Verizon is not alone in this, and indeed, technology is transforming many different aspects of how companies operate, and interact with their global stakeholders.
When it comes to finding the right talent, companies and the types of roles they offer are transforming at an expedited rate. Employees are having to quickly broaden their cultural and technical knowledge, soft skills and talents in order to remain competitive and relevant as their firms transition from specialized services to integrated solutions. In the new world, technology skills are often meaningless without commercial acumen and communication expertise. Employees need to be able to not only leverage technology and social media, but interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to interface with customers and co-workers, and on an increasingly global scale.
Ideally, all potential hires would be multilingual and able to communicate with stakeholders in other countries. Every hiring manager should be asking questions to uncover a potential employee’s ability to team well and collaborate with others. Gone are the days of working in silos and independently from one another. Effective employees will need to master the ability to navigate, and collaborate in a vast, virtual, matrixed environment, and mastering an appropriate online presence is vital in order to be able to identify potential candidates. Though the Company knows things are not quite there yet – this is another step in the right direction.
