AT&T U-verse Wins “Best TV App” TV Connect Award

AT&T Wins Category for Second Year in a Row

LondonEnglandMarch 21, 2013

AT&T* was once again recognized by TV Connect, this time with the Best TV App award for U-verse Easy Remote®. The TV Connect Award winners were announced Thursday, March 21 at TV Connect 2013 in London. Formerly the IP&TV Industry Awards, the TV Connect Awards recognize innovation, excellence and achievement in the connected entertainment industry.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for innovation and excellence by TV Connect for our U-verse Easy Remote app,” said Maria Dillard, vice president of U-verse and video products, AT&T Home Solutions. “Innovating in areas like voice and gesture commands allowed us to create an app that enhances the entertainment experience for all customers, and we look forward to bringing even more advanced apps and features to customers in the future.”

The U-verse Easy Remote App is an intuitive and innovative app that enables customers to easily turn their compatible device into a U-verse remote control with new voice control functionality. Designed with accessibility in mind, the U-verse Easy Remote App assists and enhances the U-verse TV experience for seniors and customers who are vision or hearing impaired or have low physical dexterity. Through gesture and speech recognition, the app provides users with multiple options to create the best interaction experience for their needs.

The U-verse Easy Remote App was initially developed by researchers at AT&T Labs.  The Labs organization is home to some of the world’s best scientists and engineers who focus their unique research capabilities and expertise on enabling the network and empowering users with innovations, such as the Easy Remote app.

The voice control functions of the Easy Remote app are powered by the AT&T Watson℠ speech recognition technology using AT&T’s Speech API, which uses advanced natural language processing to recognize and understand spoken words. Also developed in AT&T Labs, AT&T Watson℠ speech recognition technology has been powering advanced speech services in the marketplace for many years and is now available for third-party developers to use in their own apps.

U-verse Easy Remote was also recognized with the TelcoTV Vision Award for “Best Innovation in Consumer Viewing Experiences.”
