TelecityGroup and IUT Villetaneuse launch vocational training program for the data centre industry

TelecityGroup, Europe’s industry-leading provider of premium carrier-neutral data centres, has today announced it is launching a vocational training programme for the data centre industry in France, in conjunction with the University of Paris. The new programme, run from the Villetaneuse Institute of Technology (VIT) and open to electrical engineering and computer science students from September 2012, will provide specialised training which could lead to employment opportunities with TelecityGroup and its partners in the data centre industry.

The first academic programme of its kind in France, the course will prepare participants for careers in the data centre industry and aims to boost local employment in a region in which numerous data centres are located. Stéphane Duproz, Managing Director, TelecityGroup France, is leading the project and is committed to driving local employment in the Seine-Saint-Denis region of Paris. Other international companies Schneider Electric and ETDE, both with close ties to the data centre industry, are also closely associated with the project.

TelecityGroup, Schneider Electric and ETDE have agreed to run internships for the students and to offer them employment on completion of their training. TelecityGroup professionals will also provide courses on data centre standards, quality and security. TelecityGroup will cover the costs related to specific technical equipment used in the training.

Supporting TelecityGroup’s CSR commitment to focus on initiatives that promote education and opportunities for children and young people in both local and international communities, the programme aims to provide access to the work environment market for young graduates in Seine-Saint-Denis. Over several years, TelecityGroup, a signatory to the Plaine Commune Company-Territory Charter1, has been active in providing community work and local recruitment. A number of young Villetaneuse Institute of Technology students are currently permanently employed by the company and in 2010 TelecityGroup strengthened its ties with the Institute by offering to train young people for careers in the data centre industry.

Stéphane Duproz, Managing Director, TelecityGroup France explains: “Data centres play an essential role in the digital economy, which is itself essential to the economic future of France. In these challenging economic times, we believe it is extremely important that we make a commitment to help the young people of the region, offering them valuable employment opportunities and enabling them to acquire relevant skills. We would like to thank VIT for its support, and our partners ETDE and Schneider Electric for their involvement in the project. We hope to be joined by other companies involved in France’s digital economy in the near future”.

TelecityGroup operates two data center in Aubervilliers, including Condorcet, a state-of-the-art facility recently voted “Best European Data Centre2“. Condorcet is a digital hub, offering direct access to a wide choice of network providers for greater choice, flexibility, network resilience, cost savings and speed to market.
