TEMPE, Ariz., June 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Limelight Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:LLNW, news, filings) today announced that it will offer IPv6 support as part of Limelight’s content delivery service. As the world celebrates World IPv6 Day by turning on IPv6, Limelight’s offering supports customers’ ongoing transition to the next generation Internet protocol.

Limelight Networks first introduced IPv6 support for its content delivery services in 2009. The company has been enabling IPv6 access to government public facing web properties for the last two years, including NASA, in accordance with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) mandate to have all public services IPv6 enabled by the end of 2012.
The web is at a tipping point as the number of addresses available in IPv4 rapidly run out due to the explosion in the number of people, devices, and web services on the Internet. Already, Asia has run out of IPv4 addresses and experts have predicted that Europe will run out next.1 IPv6, the next-generation Internet protocol that provides more than 340 trillion, trillion, trillion addresses, will support the continued growth of Internet globally for years to come.
