BLOOMINGTON, Ill.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Mar. 26, 2012– Frontier Communications (NYSE:FTR, news, filings) recently announced 2011 network enhancements and capital investments in Illinois which continue to transform the service areas the company acquired in July of 2010. Frontier offers broadband, digital phone service, satellite video, VOIP services, customer premises equipment (Data and voice systems, support for commercial businesses and E911 applications) with web security/data back-up through Frontier Secure suite of services.
“We’re proud to announce that we invested approximately $75.5 million in Illinois in 2011,” said Mike Flynn, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Frontier’s Illinois operations.
“One of our first and largest investments was upgrading Frontier’s backbone fiber network with ROADM technology (Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer) that increased our capacity approximately 80 fold across our new 800 gigabit network for our existing and new High-Speed customers,” noted Flynn. “Our broadband networks improve the online experience for customers in terms of Internet speeds and broadband availability and enhance network manageability. The flexible optical network capabilities of ROADM are important as network capacity continues to grow and demand for Frontier’s higher-capacity residential and business broadband services increases. Frontier’s ROADM network platform will allow us to dramatically expand the availability of broadband in our Illinois service areas over the next two years. We’re very excited about our new network performance and the reliable, higher broadband speeds we can now deliver to customers.”
Flynn added: “During the past 19 months, we built out our network to make Frontier broadband available to more than 82 towns, expanding availability in our service territory from 59% to 72%, while we continue to build toward 80% this year. We are aggressively deploying Metro Ethernet and Dedicated Internet Access capabilities to serve the growing bandwidth needs of our commercial customers as well. These services are delivered via Frontier’s backbone network which includes more than 6,330 miles of fiber and connects all of the company’s central switching offices.
“Our core Values include ‘put the customer first’ and being locally engaged in the communities we serve. We have eight distinct market areas in Illinois, each led by a General Manager responsible for the overall customer experience in his or her area,” stated Flynn.
All Frontier services are installed and maintained by the company’s 100% U.S.-based work force. Frontier has more than 600 Illinois employees. The company operates in 552 towns across Illinois and serves more than 500,000 customers across the state.
