Dr. Rajiv Laroia to Present “Internet for the Social Beings” at International Conference on Information, Communications and Signal Processin

Westford, Mass., November 7, 2011 Sonus Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:SONS, news, filings), a market leader in next-generation IP-based network solutions , today announced that its Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Rajiv Laroia will be a featured keynote speaker at the International Conference on Information, Communications and Signal Processing (ICICS).

ICICS 2011, a biennial event, will take place in Singapore from December 13-16, 2011. The theme for this year’s conference is “Sustainable Infocomm Systems.”

Dr. Laroia’s presentation titled “Internet for the Social Beings – The Future of the Internet?” will describe a proximate Internet – a network of all devices that are in physical proximity to a person. It will focus on a new peer-to-peer airlink technology that was designed to enable the proximate Internet and the challenges such a design had to overcome.

Sonus’ Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Laroia is a well-recognized expert in current and next-generation wireless broadband technologies. He joined Sonus from Qualcomm, where he served as senior vice president as a result of the company’s acquisition of Flarion Technologies in January 2006. Previously, he was the founder and CTO of Flarion Technologies where he and his team designed the first all-IP mobile wireless data system based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM).

Prior to launching Flarion in 2000, Dr. Laroia was with Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories, joining the prestigious Mathematical Sciences Research Center in 1992. He received his Ph.D. and Master’s degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi – all in electrical engineering. His thesis also contributed to V.34, the ITU voice-band modem international standard. Dr. Laroia has 145 issued patents and more than 300 pending. Additionally, he was inducted to the University of Maryland, College Park Innovations Hall of Fame and has won numerous industry awards including the IIT Delhi Distinguished Alumni Award. He is also a Fellow of the IEEE.
