Windstream Hosted Solutions expands Raleigh data center with U.S. women’s soccer star Abby Wambach

RALEIGH, N.C. – Windstream Hosted Solutions, one of the premier providers of enterprise-class managed hosting solutions, is celebrating the expansion of its Raleigh data center with U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team star Abby Wambach.

Wambach will be the featured guest at an invitation-only grand opening event from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Windstream Hosted Solutions data center, 5301 Departure Drive in Raleigh. Wambach is an Olympic gold medalist and is the third highest all-time goal scorer for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team.

Windstream President and CEO Jeff Gardner, Chief Operating Officer Brent Whittington, Executive Vice President of Business Sales John Leach and Senior Vice President of Data Center Operations Kip Turco also will attend. Gardner will review Windstream’s planned acquisition of PAETEC and strategic vision as a technology solutions provider. With the acquisition of PAETEC, the combined company will maintain approximately 100,000 route miles of fiber and operate 20 data centers across the country.

The Windstream Hosted Solutions data center expansion, which has increased data center floor space by 10,000 square feet and 4 megawatts, was needed to keep up with the company’s fast-growing customer base and demand for cloud-based services, such as secure storage. The expansion is the third addition to the Raleigh data center in the last five years.

“The demand for data center outsourcing is skyrocketing as more companies move toward cloud-based infrastructures,” Turco said. “With this expansion, we are anticipating our customers’ needs for robust data center and cloud capabilities.”

This expansion is indicative of the accelerated investments that Windstream is making, as the Raleigh data center is the third data center expansion project for the company in recent months. Windstream Hosted Solutions completed a major expansion of its Boston data center in May, opened its third data center in Charlotte, N.C., in April, and is constructing a new data center in Little Rock, Ark. In conjunction with these builds, the company also launched an upgraded cloud computing platform in its Charlotte market earlier this month.

A trusted data center partner to both small- to mid-size businesses as well as large Fortune 100 companies, Windstream Hosted Solutions provides enterprise-class managed hosting solutions for data storage, cloud computing, network and security, OS management and middleware service management, DBA services and disaster recovery.
