MIAMI & PHOENIX–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Sonus Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:SONS, news, filings), a market leader in next-generation IP-based network solutions, today announced that the company’s NBS5200™ Session Border Controller (SBC) has successfully completed interoperability testing with the BroadWorks® voice application platform using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). This interoperability includes the extensive BroadSoft® suite of BroadWorks services including call control, registration handling, fax interworking, and video. For service providers, interoperability shortens the test deployment and acceptance cycle and provides confidence that advanced services can work seamlessly between Sonus and BroadSoft.

BroadSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ: BSFT) is the leading global provider of software that enables mobile, fixed-line and cable service providers to deliver real-time communications over their IP networks. The firm’s BroadWorks platform delivers a broad range of unified communications services including video, voice, hosted call center, conferencing, messaging and mobility, for businesses and consumers worldwide. The Sonus NBS5200 is a carrier-grade, high-density and highly scalable (SBC) solution with integrated transcoding and media interworking, plus native support for IPv6 and IPSec encryption.

The NBS5200 SBC has also officially been added to BroadSoft’s Partner Configuration Guide (PCG), which describes what specific features were tested as well as configuration examples.

“We are pleased to have completed the interoperability testing between our NBS5200 session border controller and the BroadWorks platform,” said David Tipping, vice president and general manager of the SBC business unit at Sonus Networks. “We believe that BroadSoft’s partners and prospects can have total confidence in the compatibility of these two products. Today, service providers are looking to provide enterprises with a complete solution and the combination of the BroadWorks platform and the NBS5200 delivers a full range of innovative VoIP applications, security, call control, advanced media services and switching – all with carrier-grade quality of service.”

“Our service provider customers want solutions with components that are pre-integrated for the innovative applications they will implement,” said David Bukovsky, vice president product management, BroadSoft. “We believe achieving interoperability with Sonus’ NBS5200 will give service providers the assurance to quickly deploy these tested solutions. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Sonus Networks.”

About the NBS5200 Session Border Controller

The NBS5200 provides a reliable, scalable solution for session border control. It delivers the longstanding strengths of the Sonus NBS9000-security, session control, bandwidth management, advanced media services and integrated billing/reporting tools, in a smaller, 2U form factor. The NBS5200 represents the next generation of session border controllers and is the first SBC to include media transcoding, robust security and advanced call routing in a high-performance device. Encryption is available in the form of TLS and IPSec for signaling and Secure RTP for media. Other security features include traffic policing, DoS, D-DoS and rogue RTP protection. With optional on-board DSP processing modules, the NBS5200 provides integrated media services including media transcoding, DTMF relay and interworking and support for data (modem) and T.38 fax relay or interworking. The NBS5200 includes an embedded routing engine based on Sonus PSX server technology for advanced routing in standalone mode or can be configured to access a centralized PSX or third-party Softswitch.
