Cotendo and Citrix Accelerate Mobile, Web and SaaS Applications with NetScaler CloudConnector for CDN

Sunnyvale, California, USA – October 26, 2011 – – Cotendo, a fast growing innovator of cloud-based web and mobile acceleration services and Citrix®, a global leader in application delivery infrastructure, today announced the availability of Citrix® NetScaler® CloudConnector for CDN within the Cotendo Acceleration Cloud.

NetScaler CloudConnector for CDN combines Cotendo’s cloud-based acceleration services with Citrix NetScaler to create unique new solutions that seamlessly extend the traditional networking footprint beyond the four walls of the enterprise datacenter to points of presence all over the world – creating a true end-to-end “service delivery fabric.”  CloudConnector for CDN provides unprecedented end-to-end acceleration of dynamic and interactive web, mobile and SaaS applications across mobile and non-mobile devices and networks. NetScaler CloudConnector for CDN enables Enterprises and content providers to provide LAN–like response times to their end users globally and reduce operating and capital expenditures while extending the security of application delivery.

The availability of this solution is particularly timely as Enterprises face additional global complexity including the need to manage public and private clouds, new applications and to reach a host of remote and home users with multiple devices while experiencing data center consolidation and an increasingly mobile workforce. The applications have also undergone a transformation in being offered as secure, service-based offerings providing personalization and geo-specific localization to users, further exacerbating the need for higher computing requirements and faster response times. As a result, flexible, globally-available hybrid network services are required to accelerate and secure enterprise applications all the way from the end user to the data center while ensuring that organizations have a streamlined and simplified manner of deploying and delivering services and managing the network.

“While other vendors have talked about on-site/cloud offerings that benefit both enterprises and content publishers, the hybrid networking solution offered by Cotendo and Citrix provides this capability as a service, not an integration project, ” said Melanie Posey, research vice president of hosting and managed network services, IDC. “This hybrid networking solution – available as a seamless end-to-end offering — provides a compelling set of benefits for enterprises and content providers with Internet-facing applications.”

NetScaler CloudConnector for CDN securely connects the origin data center and the Cotendo Acceleration Cloud, extending the reach of NetScaler to the Internet Edge. NetScaler CloudConnector for CDN relies upon Citrix NetScaler appliances residing within both Cotendo’s global point of presence (PoP) network as well as Enterprise data centers, creating a secure, high-speed encrypted delivery tunnel that optimizes content for end users. From the data center, through the cloud, and ultimately to end users, this is the only end-to-end solution available today that cohesively addresses content acceleration in a secure environment while having the ability to reduce latency, conserve bandwidth and provide a superior user experience.

NetScaler CloudConnector for CDN and the Cotendo Acceleration cloud together provide many benefits including:

  • Amplified performance optimization accelerates application delivery by two to three times and up to 20 times for mobile applications.
  • Significant cost reduction by applying enhanced compression techniques such as de-duplication reducing outbound data center traffic by up to 95 percent resulting in significant drop in data center networking infrastructure expenses.
  • Enhanced and extended security mechanisms through the application of consistent security policies globally as well as the early detection of threats enabled by combining Cotendo’s distributed monitoring and graceful failover mechanisms and Citrix NetScaler application firewall technologies
  • Optimized support for mobile devices adapted for individual user devices, sessions and content allowing the speedy delivery of latency-sensitive applications to ensure a consistently superior user experience.
  • Simplified network management for IT departments of complex, modern Enterprise networks that include IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and remote offices.
  • Instant global scalability through a distributed global footprint enabling Enterprises to make their applications available to a global user base instantly without the need for infrastructure expansion.

“The power and flexibility of the Cotendo Cloud Acceleration services provide the perfect complement to NetScaler on-premise acceleration, availability and security capabilities,” said Klaus Oestermann, Group Vice President and General Manager, Cloud Networking Group, Citrix. “NetScaler CloudConnectors are a critical component of the Citrix networking and cloud strategy, and we are excited to bring a whole new class of hybrid network solutions to market for both B2C, B2B as well as B2E optimization.”

“Cotendo’s vision is to enable Enterprises to expand their reach by providing end-to-end acceleration from end-user to data center and by delivering a consistent, superior experience to their users, partners and employees,” said Ronni Zehavi, CEO, Cotendo. “The hybrid Cotendo and Citrix network solution breaks down the silos that exist today between traditional CDNs, advanced cloud-based acceleration services and on-premise application delivery infrastructure to ensure that current and future end-users of mobile and web applications enjoy the richest and most secure experience possible. This innovative collaboration with Citrix allows content providers and large Enterprises to globally expand their applications, provide an enhanced experience for anyone accessing content on their networks and realize a significant reduction in both capital expenditures as well as operational expenditures while removing the complexity IT departments often face today when addressing challenges of this nature.”
