Sprint Announces Samsung Device Giveaway and New Breakout Sessions for Open Solutions Conference

Google and Sprint to lead sessions on NFC technology and Mobile Commerce

Sprint Open Solutions Conference to be a green event utilizing NFC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), September 26, 2011 – Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings) announced today that Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) agreed to be a Premier Sponsor for its 11th annual Open Solutions Conference and will be giving the first 1,500 registered attendees a free Nexus S™ 4G from Google™ device with one month of service.*

The conference, Nov. 2-4 in Santa Clara, Calif., gives developers, enterprises and entrepreneurs information on creating innovative applications and solutions on the Sprint network. Registration is now open at http://developer.sprint.com/devcon2011.

NFC focus

Near Field Communication (NFC) is technology that allows consumers to simply tap their NFC-capable device, such as a wireless phone, near an NFC reader to obtain information or to use it as a credit card or mobile wallet. Sprint, together with Google, is the first U.S. carrier to roll out an app – Google Wallet — using NFC capability for purchases in retail stores.

As part of its commitment to environmental responsibility, the Sprint Open Solutions Conference will be a “green” event. Attendees will be able to use their Nexus S 4G device to obtain information from sponsors, exhibits and at breakout sessions eliminating the need for brochures and paper materials. Each booth in the convention center will have an NFC tag or smart poster that will allow participants to tap and receive product or service information.

In addition, throughout the conference space, users will find smart posters and NFC-enabled vending machines to take advantage of the technology and learn more about its uses.

Mobile commerce and NFC sessions

During the conference, Sprint and Google will be leading several sessions that focus on NFC and mobile commerce:

  • Sprint Mobile Commerce – session demonstrating how to leverage mobile commerce within an application or solution. Mobile commerce can help provide a wider product reach, reduce transaction costs and streamline business processes.
  • NFC and Mobility – informative session on business opportunities around Google Wallet and utilizing NFC technology.
  • Leveraging NFC Technology – hands-on coding session on how to incorporate NFC technology into applications and wireless solutions to make them richer and more useful for consumers.

“As an environmental leader in the industry, we are pleased to use NFC technology and the Nexus S 4G devices to make this our first green conference,” said Kevin McGinnis, vice president-Product, Sprint. “We are excited to see the innovative and useful applications and solutions that developers, business leaders and entrepreneurs create after experiencing the power of NFC technology throughout the Open Solutions Conference.”

Throughout the three-day conference, developers will learn about Sprint’s open enablement strategy, creating applications for 4G and 3D, how Sprint’s machine-to-machine (M2M) ecosystem is generating innovative solutions in transportation and other sectors, go-to-market strategies, approaches to make developers more profitable, and current Sprint tools and capabilities across devices, networks and platforms. The conference will also feature sessions focused on the enterprise market, including topics related to trends in business applications and devices, Android strategy, mobile security, mobile ecosystem strategies, M2M-specific solutions development, next generation Sprint Direct Connect, managed mobility and cloud services.

Additional events at the Open Solutions Conference include hands-on coding sessions, breakout sessions, event sponsor exhibits, town hall meetings, keynote presentations from industry leaders, and networking opportunities for developers. The conference will include 4G and M2M demonstration areas. A preliminary agenda for the Open Solutions Conference is now posted on the Sprint Developer website.

The registration cost is $350. Developers can register and find additional information about the Open Solutions Conference at http://developer.sprint.com/devcon2011.
