Spectranet Extends National Reach with Juniper Networks

India’s Emerging Integrated Communication Services Provider Finds Cost-Effective Way to Offer MPLS/VPN Services Nationwide

NEW DELHI, India, September 26, 2011 — Juniper Networks (NASDAQ:JNPR, news, filings) today announced that Spectranet, an integrated communication services provider, has deployed an IP/MPLS network core running on the Junos® operating system. The new infrastructure enables Spectranet to establish peering connections with India’s top-tier MPLS provider and leverage its extensive network edge deployments in order to offer services across the country.

Since launching its broadband Internet access and hosting services in 2000, Spectranet has built a solid presence among small- to medium- sized enterprises in India’s six major cities. Following its acquisition by the Shyam Group three years ago, the company has evolved as an integrated communications services provider offering a wide range of data and voice services and has enhanced its focus both in terms of customer segments and product portfolio. Implementation of the Juniper Networks® MPLS core network solution is a key step in Spectranet’s drive to extend its geographical reach.

“There are a handful of IP/MPLS service providers that already have points-of-presence in every city and large town across the country, so rather than replicating their infrastructure, we are leveraging it and focusing on creating our service differentiation by offering some interesting overlay managed services, enabled by the Juniper core,” said Udit Mehrotra, managing director, Spectranet. “Juniper devices provide us with the interoperability and reliability we need to aggregate the Tier-1 service provider networks, as well as advanced MPLS features to support service innovation and the scalability and low total cost of ownership which we need to meet our business objectives.”

Spectranet’s IP/MPLS network is built around clusters of Juniper Networks MX80 3D Universal Edge Routers deployed in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi. These routers are peered with the other MPLS service provider networks enabling Spectranet to offer nationwide MPLS/VPN connectivity via its existing broadband and fast-growing fibre-optic access networks in these cities.

“To be successful as a Tier-1 network aggregator and local service provider requires top-notch infrastructure that delivers excellent quality-of-service while keeping a lid on costs,” said Ravi Chauhan, managing director, India and SAARC, Juniper Networks. “We are helping Spectranet to pursue its hybrid strategy, not only by providing a very advanced MPLS platform – the Juniper Networks MX Series – but also offering a pay-as-you-grow solution that minimizes upfront costs.”

Juniper Networks MX Series midrange routers can be upgraded using software licenses, in effect allowing customers to install the full 80Gbs capabilities of the MX80 while starting out with as little as 20Gbps enabled. Two rack units (2 RU) high and built to support redundant power supplies and fans, these platforms have a small physical and environmental footprint while offering the full Ethernet capabilities and advanced services and features of the MX Series routers and Juniper Networks Junos®, a reliable, high-performance network operating system for routing, switching, and security.
