QTS Plans $20 Million Expansion of Kansas City-Area Data Center

Overland Park, KS (August 4, 2011)

Key Highlights:

  • QTS will offer the Kansas City market a premier data center facility by upgrading the power, connectivity and space of its Lenexa facility.
  • Expansion planned after QTS recognized increased market demand outside of traditional data center hubs.
  • The Lenexa facility will be connected to the company’s Overland Park Data Center through diverse network connections.

QTS (Quality Technology Services), one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing providers of data centers and managed services, is expanding its Lenexa, Kan., data center after recently purchasing the previously leased site. The company will upgrade the power, connectivity and space available in the facility through a planned investment of more than $20 million.

The planned expansion will more than double the amount of raised floor available in the 40,000 square foot data center, while increasing usable N +1 configured power five-fold. In addition to its managed service offerings, all three of the company’s products – colocation, custom data center and cloud services, will be available in the new facility.

QTS will further bolster the options for their customers by connecting the Lenexa facility with the carrier-neutral QTS Overland Park Data Center through diverse network connections, creating redundant synchronous replication capabilities between the two data centers. In addition, the property will have 24-hour security staffing, with a fenced perimeter and gated entry for added customer privacy.

“We’ve enjoyed exceptional growth by building state-of-the-art, fully redundant data centers and we’re committed to developing the premier data center in the Kansas City market,” said Chad Williams, chief executive officer – QTS. “We’re seeing increasing market demand outside of traditional top tier data center markets. This expansion offers desirable opportunities for those seeking high-density data center solutions in the Midwest and also enhances options for current customers looking to expand their presence with us through our managed services and cloud offerings.”

In the last three quarters, QTS has completed expansions of its Santa Clara and Atlanta Metro Data Centers; meanwhile, construction continues on its Jersey City and Richmond expansions. The Lenexa facility is expected to be ready for new customers in 2012. Currently, QTS owns over 95 percent of the 3.1 million square feet of data center space it operates in 12 data centers from coast-to-coast.
