QTS (Quality Technology Services)
, one of the nation’s largest and fastest growing providers of data centers and managed services, announces the creation of two new leadership positions that bolster the company’s ability to meet requirements of commercial, enterprise and federal customers. QTS has selected Rick Henson to serve as the company’s vice president of security and Matt Tyndall as executive vice president of development. The new hires reflect continued customer interest in large footprint data center environments and the increasing security needs of both federal and enterprise customers.

With over 20 years of experience in security, intelligence, protective operations and emergency management, Rick Henson assumes responsibility for both the logical and physical security of 12 QTS data centers coast-to-coast. Addressing the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative and the increasing need to meet federal security standards, Henson will be based at the QTS Richmond Data Center where he will work closely with the company’s Federal Systems Group.

Henson comes to QTS following his position as director of special programs and security in the Office of Emergency Response and Recovery for the General Services Administration. Previously, Henson served as the deputy chief of the Deliberate Plans Branch in the Department of Homeland Security. Rick retired from the U.S. Marine Corps following a successful 20-year career. He holds a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice, and is a Certified Protection Professional.

“Our current and prospective customers, particularly our federal customers, have increasingly complex security requirements,” said Chad Williams, chief executive officer – QTS. “With vast public and private sector experience in the protection of high-value assets, Rick has the ideal background for this new position. QTS has long been a leader in logical and physical security in the data center industry. Creating this position, and filling it with someone of Rick’s caliber and expertise, exhibits the emphasis we place on protecting our customers’ infrastructure and data.”

In addition to augmenting the company’s security leadership, QTS welcomes Matt Tyndall to the newly created position of executive vice president of development. Tyndall comes to QTS after 21 years of mission-critical development at Turner Construction, where he managed over $1 billion in data center construction projects. As executive vice president of development, he will assume responsibility for the multiple expansion and new construction projects taking place across the company’s portfolio of data centers. His scope of work will include site acquisition, design and development as QTS continues to expand its state-of-the-art offerings nationwide. A veteran of the construction industry, Matt studied building science at Auburn University and received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Middle Tennessee State University.

“Creating an executive vice president of development and filling the position with a construction veteran like Matt, demonstrates our continued commitment to building large, robust, redundant data centers that offer the flexibility, scalability and security that our customers are looking for,” said Brian Johnston, chief technology officer – QTS. “Matt’s extensive data center development expertise will help accelerate our growth in Richmond, Atlanta, Jersey City, Santa Clara, Kansas City and other potential future data center locations.”
