CenturyLink works to restore North Carolina communications services

Wake Forest, N.C. – CenturyLink continues to work to restore telephone and Internet services that were impacted by damages caused by Hurricane Irene.

Technicians have identified the locations in eastern North Carolina where communications are still impacted, and are repairing services now that it is safe for employees to access the areas. Additional generator resources are being deployed to areas where commercial power continues to be out. As those areas come back online, the generators will be redeployed to other affected areas.

CenturyLink encourages customers to be prepared for severe weather season by keeping at least one telephone in the home that does not need to be plugged into a power outlet. All cordless telephones must be plugged in and will, therefore, not work during power outages.

“CenturyLink’s priority is customer service and restoring communications,” said Kevin McCarter, vice president and general manager for Central & Eastern North Carolina. “We appreciate our customers’ patience while we work to resolve the issues caused by this massive hurricane.
