CenturyLink is working to restore New Jersey communications after Hurricane Irene

Clinton, NJ – CenturyLink officials began preparing for the impact of Hurricane Irene before the storm arrived and were ready to begin working on service restoration as soon as the storm subsided.  Auxiliary power generators were put in place before the storm moved into New Jersey on Saturday night.  Local technicians began working to repair service on Sunday morning and will work until service is fully restored.  Teams of CenturyLink workers from neighboring states have been deployed to assist local employees in restoring service.

CenturyLink is currently experiencing outages in some areas throughout its New Jersey territory, while some local areas experienced no interruption in service.  Outages are cased primarily by lines which have been knocked down by wind or trees, commercial power outages, and the depletion of remote batteries and generators.  In some instances, floodwaters and fallen trees are preventing technicians from servicing remote locations or from refilling diesel powered generators.

Currently 5,880 customers are without service in Belle Mead, Califon, Chester, Lebanon and Whitehouse, and, in the Sussex County communities of Branchville, Franklin, Lake Mohawk, Newton, Montague and Sussex. “CenturyLink’s priority is safety and customer service, and our technicians are working around the clock to get service back up and running.   We appreciate our customers’ patience while we work to resolve this issue,” said CenturyLink spokesman Jim Robinson.
