Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company expands deployment of Acme Packet for international wholesale interconnect

Global market share-leading session border controllers enable secure and flexible international IP interconnects

BEDFORD, MA, JULY 6, 2011 — Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session delivery networks, today announced that Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), the leading telecommunications provider in the Philippines, has extended its deployment of Acme Packet session border controllers (SBCs) to transition its international interconnects from circuit-switched to IP connections and add more network capacity for its growing international wholesale services. In addition to interconnect solutions, PLDT is using Acme Packet SBCs for both residential and enterprise Voice over IP (VoIP) services.

The Philippines has a significant amount of international traffic due to both a high overseas population as well as a strong Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. As the incumbent, PLDT carries much of the country’s international voice traffic and needed to meet the increasing demands for SIP-based interconnect from international operators. With Acme Packet’s support for a wide range of codecs and transcoding, PLDT is able to offer premium interconnect services to address an expanded PLDT market opportunity.

“IP-based networks continue to expand and as the preferred full service provider of voice, video and data, we require the best solutions that will enable us to reach nearly all possible network borders,” said Genarco C. Sanchez, vice president of network planning and engineering, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company. “We have been leveraging Acme Packet session border controllers since 2005 and achieved benefits from the company’s IP interconnect domain expertise. With Acme Packet solutions, we continue to deploy multiple applications and services on various borders cost effectively and quickly.”

“Since 2005, PLDT has been a regional leader in planning and deploying IP networks,” said Dino Di Palma, senior vice president of worldwide sales and business development, Acme Packet. “Acme Packet has worked closely with PLDT on many successful projects and we look forward to continuing to fulfill the requirements to serve its extensive customer base.”
