Lightower Adds Diverse Hudson River Crossing to New York Area Fiber Network

New river crossing shortens route across Hudson and is diverse from Tappan Zee Bridge routes

BOXBOROUGH, MA — May 17, 2011 — Lightower Fiber Networks, a leading metro fiber network and bandwidth service provider, announced today the completion of a new network route across the Hudson River that offers diversity and a shorter route relative to paths across the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Lightower’s new strategic crossing spans the Hudson south of the Tappan Zee Bridge and makes Lightower the only fiber network service provider in the area with a river crossing diverse from the bridge.  The river span at this new location is also shorter than at the bridge, lowering the latency of Lightower’s route through the area.

“We are proud to have completed this unique Hudson River crossing, which is an important, strategic addition to our network in the New York City area,” said Rob Shanahan, CEO, Lightower.  “For the financial services industry in and around the hub of New York City, this route means a shorter physical route as well as a uniquely diverse route.  This new route across the Hudson will serve Lightower customers for decades to come.”

The new high-fiber count cable will support a complete suite of Lightower end-to-end fiber networking solutions, including Ethernet, dark fiber, SONET, wavelengths, and Internet access.

Lightower customers will also benefit from this new path as it adds yet another diverse route between the greater New York City region and markets to the north including the Hudson Valley, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.  Lightower now offers customers six geographically diverse routing options between these critical Northeast regions.
