Frontier Invests $5.5 Million to Increase Broadband Availability and Enhance Internet Speeds in Oregon

BEAVERTON, Ore., Apr 14, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) —

Frontier Communications (NYSE:FTR, news, filings) announced today that it has invested more than $5.5 million since July 2010 to increase broadband availability and enhance network performance in Oregon. As of March 31, 2011, an additional 14,300 households and businesses in 21 communities in Columbia, Coos, Curry, Jackson, Josephine, Marion, Union and Wallowa counties have broadband availability as a result of these investments.

In addition, the company has made major upgrades to create a state-of-the-art network that significantly increases capacity and enables customers to enjoy faster Internet speed.

“We believe that increased broadband availability and adoption are vital to economic recovery and growth for Oregon and our nation,” said Ken Gaffga, Oregon Vice President and General Manager for Frontier Communications.

“In our digital world, access to broadband enhances our quality of life and is a near necessity for daily living,” added Gaffga. “Use of the Internet for safety, education, entertainment, business communications and telemedicine is huge. Frontier’s commitment to delivering broadband to rural and suburban America underscores its belief that small to medium-sized towns and suburbs deserve the same services as bigger cities.”

Frontier’s High-Speed Internet service is delivered on a dedicated line from the company’s central switching office to the customer’s home or business. The service is supported by local technicians and backed by live, 24/7, 100-percent U.S.-based customer service and technical support.

New residential customers ordering Frontier’s High-Speed Internet services are offered two-hour appointment windows. A trained technician will install a Frontier wireless router, connect the customer’s computer to the Internet and offer anyone interested basic instructions about how to access and navigate the web.

Customers may also choose from among Frontier’s Peace of Mind PC Support Services, including Internet security, 24/7 live technical support and automatic online data backup to a secure remote server.
