March 14, 2011 – KDDI America would like to take this opportunity to express our great sadness to all those who have been affected in any way by the earthquake and tsunami in northern Japan.
Telecom network outages, gas and water supply issues and power blackouts continue in many towns and areas across the region as a result of the March 11 earthquake and will not be completely resolved for some time yet.
We would ask all people thinking of calling the disaster-stricken areas of Japan to keep these to necessary and urgent calls only. This is to keep lines as open as possible for people in the affected areas to make emergency calls.
Unnecessary calls make it harder for cell phones in the area to be able to connect to the telephone network.
To assist those who do need to urgently contact loved ones throughout Japan, KDDI America will make all calls to Japan from KDDI Mobile phones located in the United States (and calls made within Japan) free of charge for 7 days starting March 14.
*Offer does not apply to prepaid users.
The following calls will not be charged:
- All international calls between Japan and the United States
- All international roaming calls made in Japan using KDDI Mobile phones
